Not much to go on there.

I'd happily pay $50 for just a straight remake of Tie Fighter with a new graphics engine. There are some truly epic missions there.

Oh holy fuck ... *runs into a wall to see if he's dreaming*

Man, I loved those games ... though I'd still probably play it on the 360 more than my PC if it happens.

Oh man, that would be awesome. I havent been able to get mission 12 (I think thats the right #) to finish in Vista64 without crashing under XWing Alliance, it would be so awesome to be able to play XWing again with proper co-op missions (Whether 2 ships or pilot/turret gunner)

In a fucking heartbeat.

I'm terrified Lucasarts will find a way to screw up even a remake.

V-Wing vs Droid Tri-Fighter?

As I said in the other thread in console gaming, I really do love TIE Fighter but I'd love to see something new, something expanded universe rather than a remake. Hmm, a KotOR version would be sweet too.

They'll make it a console game for sure, then port it to PC. Console ports always suck.

Am I the only person in the world who's heard of X-Wing Alliance?

They actually did remakes of the engine for Tie Fighter and X-wing on similar standard to XvT.

A new remake in the same universe (Nothing beats taking on a Star Destroyer) with photo realistic ship models.

Am I wrong in thinking that current top-of-the-line computer hardware would eat anything thrown at it in regards to a completely up to date engine? There really cannot be that much processing in a space sim.

And how old is TIE Fighter?

re-released in '98 with the x-wing vs tie fighter engine from '97. basically a year or two older than x-wing alliance.

edit- went to youtube to look at some gameplay and refresh my memory. yeah, alliance is pretty technically superior.

I haven't played a space/flight fighter sim since TIE Fighter, can is there a way to get acceptable control scheme from keyboard/mouse? One thing I could see hurting a remake is a requirement for a control pad/joystick. Although I would certainly go out and buy the best stick I could afford the minute this game went gold.

I think they FINALLY realized they are sitting on a pot of gold with that game...

almost everything is remakes these days. Movies, games, it was only a matter of time.

I don't think this would be a huge problem they could either include a cheap one in the box or use xbox controllers. I know 360 controllers work in vista and I am sure it will be in windows 7. I am pretty sure they work with XP too.

I actually played exclusively with a mouse/kb, and actually called Lucasarts when XvT came out and mouse/kb setups weren't going to be supported. I was young, hehe.

A PURE remake with nothing but a graphical update (MAAAYBE some more voice acting) would be the most welcome thing, really. I played an MMO space-sim called Jumpgate for years, and now that the devs are remaking it they're trashing everything that made the game really special in their efforts to reach a broader audience.

I have it, aside from the mill falcon wannabe death star run, I found it to be quite weak.

I'd rather play as the empire 9/10 times.

The Death Star run was a bit awkward as I remember it.

I still dream of the day where the Battle of Endor could actually be recreated to scale with up to 256 players or more in a massive dog fight with capital ships slugging it out.

I laughed with Xwing Alliance when most of the Star Destroyers were only a painted back drop!

Hmm, well according to Fudzillait's going to be an Xbox release.

"With the success that Lucas Arts has been having lately with the remake of Monkey Island as well as the release of the older catalog on Steam, it really comes as no surprise that likely one of the grand daddies of all Lucas titles is getting revamped for a return.

Sources tell us that an updated and very modernized version of the classic X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter will be headed to Xbox Live. While an announcement is still expected to be a few months out, the ground work for bringing this updated version to Xbox Live is already in the production stages, according to reports.

While our sources tell us to look for an official announcement soon, the re-release of X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter could be a fantastic move on Lucas?s part, as the title was highly successful and an updated re-release for the Xbox 360 could exceed sales projections if it were done right.

We can hardly wait for this one, Lucas, so get on the ball and make this happen; at least drop an announcement soon to let us know that this is in the pipeline.

If true.....FAIL.

Goddamit. It'll be a filthy port.

How depressing. One of the icons of PC gaming, a game that most of us grew up with and adore, is going to be run through a greasy profit-generating mass-appeal processor, and ejected as shit.
