Whohoo!!! Very cool, just got an adjustment, so I'll end up with two drives for $20! Not bad, not bad, the best deal EVER on a CD-RW.

"Fremont, CA out"

or do you mean Newark, CA ?

(I don't think there is Staples in Fremont is there? But the one in Newark, CA doesn't carry the Yamaha now)

Anyone notice the rebate lists the model as "2100EZ" - above in the thread the staples item was listed as "2100E". Was that a typo - could these be two different items?

Later!

South San Francisco Update.

Tranfran Mall: None
San Mateo: Out

Looks like these were gone a long time ago, or they just didn't get any shipments of those Yamahas.

If you want to get one, eBay is going to be jumpin with these soon enough.

Guys, my local Staples has the Yamaha 16x, but it's a returned one...
Should I get this or go with the Philips 8x? I heard the Yamaha
isn't really 16x fast but a bit slower... anyway, there's Staples
30 day return policy plus manufacturer's warranty on the returned
Yamaha... what do you guys think?

Get it....if it doesn't work out, return it, what have you lost? Make sure the UPC and Proof of Purchase are still on the box.

Hello....I am a new member, but I ahve been watching these forums for a month or more now.

I have noticed the questions regarding this burner, and would like to point a few
of you to this review I read a few weeks ago....

http://www4.tomshardware.com/storage/01q1/010330/index.html

Sorry if I did not post the link right...I am quite busy and have not had a chance
to read the How to thread yet. Enjoy

Checked mine, out. Not sure if it even had any to begin with. There were no price labels on the shelves for the Yamaha. There was one for the Phillips, but that one was empty.

Do your homework. Yamaha burners have always been considered top-of-the-line products, and our mutual friend who writes CDRwin (goldenhawk.com) won't buy anything but.

I just picked up. Managed to talk the guy at the counter to give it to me even though he was holding it for someone else for the past 6 hour. Anyhows, I can't seem to find the 10 off coupon. I know coupon codes aren't allowed so can someone email me the link or the code to kpreap@msn.com Thanks in advance.

Albany, Oregon store never stocked them to begin with Bummer. It's not like I don't have my nice SCSI Plextor 8x20 which works with CloneCD quite well

Just picked one up at my local staples. They had 2, I got one and my friend got the other. The salesperson asked me if I needed help and I pointed to the drive in the case. He took it out and said, "This is the fastest one out right now. I think it is $170 or $180." I said, "Ok, I'll take it." He said that he should check the price so I don't have to wait on the line, I agreed. The look on his face was priceless when $87.50 came up. I just smiled and told him about the extra $50 rebate, he was even more shocked. Used the $10 off $40 and was out the door for a total of $84.09. This will be a nice addition next to my Plextor 8X20.

I picked this one up at the Patchogue, NY store, and I saw another one today at the Islip, NY store. Look around, they are still out there.

Skunk for me in the Washington DC area ... out at:

Woodbridge
Burke
Springfield Mall
Richmond Hwy

[OFF TOPIC RANT]
When I in the Burke store, I saw the clerk with a phone telling someone, "no, we don't have that CD-RW". About 5PM or so. Reminded me of the "Hunt for Talkabout Radios" a couple weeks ago. Then, I walked into an OD, and inquired about the Talkabouts, and got the response the Anandtecher most fears from the clerk:

"Oh, you're here for that hot Internet deal."

This, of course, is the cue for you to know the clerks have whatever's left stashed in the store somewhere. I can only imagine that some knucklehead(s) out there called them, and tried to _impress_ the clerk with Internet knowledge and dealing, and told them way more than they shoulda.

Bottom line: for you newbies (and others who really should know better), don't blab everything you know about AnandTech and dealmaking to the clerks on the phone. The more you say, the fewer deals there will be in the future. Be advised that as you were providing them the specific SKU you wanted, they were able to call it up on their inventory system, and see the original price of $109.99 and the discount price of $19.44. BOOM! THEY THEN KNOW IT'S A DEAL, AND THE MERCHANDISE IS A LOT CLOSER TO THEM.

When the clerk discusses things with you, act dumb, act surprised, or don't say anything. You got the idea out of one of their catalogs. Gabbing and blabbing won't get you the merchandise faster, nor will the employees be _impressed_ with you. Only bad things can happen from too much talk.

I'm done, and going back into my hole.

I can relate, when I called my local staples, the electronics guy said I was the 52nd person to call him that day.
