i ordered their PNY on July 10th and still don't have anything. you guys will likely be waiting a good chunk of time before you see these. Buy.com has horrible customer service as well. They don't post their phone # and when you do get ahold of a CSR, they basically tell you "it's not shipped yet" which you obviously know due to the lack of tracking number for the past month ................. but YMMV

I'm also assuming the both are retail boxes (I havn't seen an OEM 6800GT yet), and since Doom3 isn't apart of any manufacturers bundle, it'll also be in retail box, they're just shipping together from Buy.com as there own little reseller bundle deal.

Well, I never thought I would either, but heres my reason.

Look athe 9800XT, the top of the line last generation card, its not even in the same league as the rest.

Why would I spend $200 (assuming you could get an XT for that much) on a card thats already outclassed and outdated?

all the latest games? 9700pro would be pure shite in doom3.. even in far cry.. I've gotten almost two years out of my ti4400.. this video card investment should last me well into the end of next year. versus buying a 9700 now and saving then buying again next year?

You can't find a 9700Pro for $100, I've seen them around the $150-170 mark.

I posted a link to the AT review of Doom3 on 1600x1200 with High Quality, which is what I plan to run it at (or 1280x1024 with some AA, we'll have to see which looks better ). That link shows how poorly the 9800XT performed.

The 9800XT has 128mb more memory than the 9700Pro, and is at a higher clock speed. The 128mb 9700 Pro would perform MUCH SLOWER than that 9800XT. Why would I spend $150-200 for a card thats already obsolete when I could just spend the money on a good card?

Well I was buying into this upgrade frenzy and I as well think it's silly. I'm running 1024x768 on my 9700 Pro at medium level. I ran it on high but it's too slow. I don't see THAT much difference.

I'm going to wait another generation.

Don't be a sheep if you have a 9700 Pro or greater

ok dude is there is a hell and heaven diff between playing in low-med-high? s hit u guys are fuc king turds... some people dont even have computers... and wait for ati to release new 4.8 drivers where u will see ALOT of improvements...

we can all wait for nvidia to release better drivers after ati.. there is no difference.. right now the gt is the card to get.. beats ati in doom, and will probably come within 5% of the XT in Hl2. I would wait for the next gen but it's probably going to be pci-x and i'd rather holdout till the second gen of new technology..

I definitely agree with abaez. I would wait until the second generation of PCI-Express video cards AND motherboards so that most of the bugs are worked out from the first generation. Whenever a new technology is introduced it is almost always buggy. There are a lot of corporations that refused to upgrade to Windows XP until at least SP2. I think that's why Microsoft is devoting so much money and resources to making SP2 polished and solid. Another problem with saying "you should wait a little while longer to upgrade" is that it goes on forever and ever. As soon as some new computer-gizmo comes out, it's obsolete within MONTHS or maybe less if there's enough competition in the market.

Heck yeah! As long as Buy.com doesn't pull a fast one... So if you figure $50 for D3, the card ends up being between $310 - $320 (depending on shipping - I got 2-day). Not bad at all!

Hopefully the MSI is not a POS. This is probably the first major hardware purchase I've made without reading extensive reviews. I know their mobos have had some capacitor issues, but my MSI GF3 from 4 years ago is still going strong.:thumbsup:
