Hopefully the MSI is not a POS. This is probably the first major hardware purchase I've made without reading extensive reviews. I know their mobos have had some capacitor issues, but my MSI GF3 from 4 years ago is still going strong.:thumbsup:

Do not be worried about MSI , from what I understand, all boards are manufactured by the same company, and each individual company puts there own stickers on the reference heatsink (or in some cases, like LeadTek, apply there own custom HSF). So, everything should be the same parts wise.

Luckily we got a pretty good warranty on this card, 3 year parts, 2 year labor. Anything past then, we should be looking foward to upgrading to something else.

I'm also running an old school MSI Ti200, still going strong. MSI is a big name, we can assume this product will be good. I'd much rather have an MSI than an eVGA/PNY.

oh yeah i got that link to $25 Greatfunonline.com gift certificate too (actually 4 $25 certificates which can be used at different time periods), its already in an envelop with the buy.com reciept ready to be posted tomorrow. should be getting a $25 check in 4 - 6 weeks. hmmm looks like even if i cancel the buy.com order AND the free trial with gfo id still get the check

Still a good deal IMO

Uh oh, I have a feeling my order may be canceled.

Let me explain.

My bank account has 2 types of "balances", an available balance and ledger balance. Ledger balance is the total money I have in there, but when a tranaction is starting (but hasn't been finalized), it subtracts from the available balance.

When I wrote this...

check my banking account, and they charged me the discounted price!

It was appearing in my available balance. So my available balance was $395.35 smaller than the ledger balance.

Now the available balance is the same as the ledger balance, as if the transaction was never happening.

Hrm... I'll have to email them.

nope. emailed them yesterday, got the same old email, ".....we will notify you when its available" crap.im going to wait for another 2 weeks, unless something better comes along. this is still a great deal, a GT for around $350 + doom3 + uru,POPand xiii(the last game i played was Quake3 and have been away from games, so these games are a good deal to me).its probably going to be shipped in 2 weeks, from the etas that have been floating around.

the compusa pny 6800 gt + free doom3 seems like an ok deal, but paying $27 in tax sucks!.

$27? In the seattle area, we have 8.7% sales tax (it may be higher by now). More like $35 in tax for us.

Grrr... I held the PNY in my hands at my local CompUSA, but I decided to keep waiting and put it back on the shelf. I decided I can wait another week or two to save ~$70. This deal BETTER come through!

(Maybe I should have bought it. That would have guarenteed that Buy.com would start shipping these tomorrow )

Anyone care to speculate on the relative merits of the MSI vs PNY cards? Other than bundled software, is there any real difference?

not sure about the merits of theses cards, expect MSI comes with 3 games, but if i were you, i wouldve bought the PNY@compusa. because even after paying taxes,

PNY+DOOM3@CUSA is ~$427 YMMV and
MSI+DOOM3@BUY.COM is $429. YMMV

i wouldve just bought the PNY+DOOM3 and just keep it for a week w/o opening(if thats possible :laugh: ) and if MSI doesnt come through, ill just cancel it. ofcourse we can sell one of the cards on ebay for a little profit too i guess . ill check the local CUSA right after work(mmmm working on sundays :thumbsdown: )just in case they still have it, acc. to their site they dont have it stock, but it doesnt hurt to try

You forgot about the 10% coupon CiN. Many of of got it for around 410 shipped or lower PLUS the msi card comes with Uru, XIII, and Prince of Persia. All of which can be sold to lower the price of the card.

Yeah - I got in on it when it was $415 - 10% - $25. Assuming Doom 3 is about $45, the buy.com deal gets me the card for $315 (inc shipping); minus Doom, CUSA works out to be about $385 (inc tax). It's worth it to me to wait another week or two.

Now if the buy deal falls through, and CUSA doesn't have the combo special anymore... I'm gonna be mighty upset!
