Bud, Miller, Coors, Michelob, PBR.... There's nothing inherently wrong with them, they just simply aren't that great. They are made for mass-market appeal, which means low flavor, meant to be drunk ice cold so they seem refreshing, but the cold is merely masking the fact that the flavor isn't very good. And this wouldn't be a problem except that with so many fantastic beers the world has to offer, why would I waste my time drinking something that was average at best?

I won't fault anyone for their choice in beverage. You found a beer you like, and more power to you. I'll toss back a macro myself if I'm hanging out watching a game with my friends... and I'll enjoy it. But you're never going to convince me that it's the "best beer". I'm never going to go out and intentionally buy Bud Light. I'm never going to think that it's better to freeze my palatte off with a low-flavor beer that needs to be drunk ice cold to be even remotely satisfying when I could treat myself to the complexities of a fine porter, stout, ipa, pale ale, trappist, hefeweizen, or any other of the hundreds of beers I've had that I consider better than Bud Light... and the thousands more I've yet to try.

Life's too short to limit yourself to just one beer.

damn, I think I grew tits reading that.

I think I found out who Atomic Playboy is

Bud Light is a perfectly fine beer. We just have too many beer snobs here. Not my preferred beer but will drink it with buddies or bars cus it's cheap.

edit: and to the OP, if you had a pint, I'm assuming you had it on tap somewhere. Not the same as a bottled Bud Light. just sayin

No, it was in a bottle.

Great for chugging, because it tastes like a real pilsner that's been watered down. I'll stick with cheap vodka if I just want a buzz, though.

My cheap light beer of choice is Coors Light or maybe Miller Lite.
My cheap beer of choice is Pabst Blue Ribbon

I think light beers vary by area of the country. In the midwest, bud light and busch light were huge. On the west coast, it seems like Coors light is the king.

this. anyone who drinks this stuff needs to do themselves a favor and stop!

So people should do themselves a favor by... not drinking what they enjoy?

I like Bud Light because there are no surprises with it.

Perfect reason why I like it. Didn't even think of that one.

Yep, bland, unremarkable and, consistent. Just like American fast food. The corporate drones have trained you well. They'll never go broke catering to the lowest common denominator.

I'm sure you are replying to the rest from your Mac so we can view on our bland, unremarkable, and consistant PCs.

I can understand your anger; I can't imagine there's a large microbrew presence in Kansas. But don't let your rage over your personal geographic isolation from good beer lead you to the opinion that the beers in that thread are terribly difficult to find. Just looking down the first page, 90% of the beers named are sold in a shop less than a mile from where I live. And I bet I could have the more obscure ones shipped to a market about two miles from where I work that prides itself on its ability to obtain the rarer beers of the world.

It gave me the urge to wear some plaid shorts and to wear some fancy shirt so as to pop the collar.

I think I posted this in some other thread recently (one of the Mac vs Windows threads maybe), but it pretty much applies to like 2/3rds of ATOT.

Barry: "What's wrong with the Righteous Brothers?"
Dick: "Nothing, I just prefer the other one."
Barry: "Bullshit!"
Rob: "How can it be bullshit to state a preference?"

-- from the movie version of High Fidelity.

What's hilarious here is that it's mostly the people drinking the cheap shit who are calling "bullshit" on others, not the so-called "snobs". Apparently enjoying beer other than Bud Light is not allowed.

I live one state up from there, and I can think of four microbreweries within fifty miles just off the top of my head. But for candy store-style beer shopping around here, HyVee is king. First place I've found Unibroue stuff.

That's just what I was thinking. I'm something of a beer connoisseur (first time I've ever spelled that word right on the first try, booyah!), but I realize not everyone shares my passion. I'm very live and let live about individual opinions or preferences. I post what I thought was a reasonable explanation of my preferences along with the disclaimer that if you prefer Bud Light, I'm not calling you wrong, and I get a host of responses back that essentially boil down to "i love you!" But no, the beer snobs are the ones who are not respectful of other people's preferences... Yeah....

Sam Adams is mass market and is leaps and bounds better than anything made by Budweiser or Miller.

The problem with most Americans when it comes to beer is they don't want to drink beer, they want to be seen drinking beer and they want to get drunk - so they drink pitchers and pitchers of light beer that may as well be distilled water because that's what it tastes like.

If you want a "world class", mass market, American beer look no further than Sam Adams.
