Whats there in Jersey? Make a comparison chart or something

Pros for Jersey:

- Grew up here
- Lots of friends here
- Went to College here
- Good beaches
- Family is here
- Best friend is here
- Colorado Cafe is my favorite (Text)
- Everything open late or 24/7

Negatives for Jersey:

- Been here all my life
- Don't like the traffic
- Have to drive to work every day (30 minutes+)
- Smoggy
- Friends located in two spots .... so I'm always driving around between home town and college town
- Only place I really like is South Jersey, but there are no jobs down there
- Not a lot of jobs ... if I lose my current one, I'm screwed into working in the city most likely... which would suck.

Pros for Boston:

- Its a city
- Public transportation
- Lots of people my age, very easy to make friends
- Would save money moving in with people ... half price rent, 20% increase in salary. Could save an extra $1500/month cash.
- Take the T to work every day, hardly have to drive
- Know the city and like the city a lot
- Already have a bunch of friends there
- Highly intelligent people

Negs for Boston:

- No Country line dancing except outside the city, which is OK ... a drive every week.
- Far from family and friends in Jersey
- Bad memories of the ex there
- New job would mean less stability at first
- Far away from my existing doctors and such in jersey (I have high blood pressure)
- Far away from my Jersey friends.
- everything closes early.

hmmm... sounds OK?

Okay, so there are a few things I've learned about myself over the past few months.

First, I know that I don't want to live alone anymore. Its worthless for me to spend $1500/month with utilities on an apartment that I'm hardly at that is way too big for me.

Second, I know that I NEED TO save money. I notice my existing debt just staying caput, and I need to work on paying that down.

So I have two options at this point.

1) Move in with my friend Nikki's family. They have a spare bedroom. Pay them $500/month rent. I get along with them very well, their entire family actually. This would involve staying at my current job. Nikki I would have to say is probably my best friend, so it works out.

2) Take an outstanding job offer I have in Boston and move up there to live with two girls I met on craigslist (they have a town home and a spare bedroom). Rent would be $750/month with utilities, but I would also get a significant raise (20% raise) at the new job, and it would be living near Boston, which would be nice and I'd like that.

So AnandTech ... this one is tough. I lean towards #2, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone with any kind of experience in this offer some insight, so I can stop all the threads and bouncing back and forth?

Thanks,

MJ

goto Boston. besides having the possibility of a drunken 3some w/the girls, it's a raise and a new city = new adventure in life!

take the road less traveled. dont be afraid of the unknown. pull that trigger!

<------------ wishes i can take my own advice

Yes. Ladies travel in 8 packs with spring/summer mini skirts! MmMmM shoulda took a pic of them today

As appealing as #1 sounds, I say #2 as the former could risk ruining your friendship and relationship with Nikki and her family. Living with people you already know changes things, sometimes for the worse.

BTW, I'm practically here all the time anyway. Her dad thinks I'm the son he's never had, and I've spent about a week straight here. One negative to this is that, I sleep in Nikki's bed, and we've been intimate once before (one of those "ooops wtf" kind of nights). If I moved in here, it might be a pressured thing....

Living with other people, particularly in "their" house eventually becames a drag. You are not family so no matter what you will break their rules and cultural expectations and need to move out. This sounds like a good way to lose a friend too.

I vote for your second option. Though I would not be surprised if the cost of living in Boston is more than 20% higher than where you live now.

It's either live with your best friend and something might happen again, or move to Boston... I would move to Boston, it's a whole new experience and you can meet new friends up there. Unless you want something further with your friend?

#2. Don't post it again.

750/mo isn't bad. Boston is great. If they're at least normal, random roomates mean meeting some new people, which it sounds like you want to do.

What does your family think? As much as they wanted me to stay closer to home, they told me to take the better opportunity (although im only a 3 hr drive now)

Yeah, they are decent people.

I'd miss a lot about Jersey, because its where I've been all of my life... but maybe its good to tear myself away from that for a while. I can always come back and settle down here.

Ha, I'm from Jersey too. Whereabouts?

I live in Northern VA now, and I'll tell you, move north before heading south. I'd love to be in Boston.

Take it man, you'll branch out and meet some new people in a really cool city.
