I dont think air is suppose to come out when I turn the gas knob to fill gas but that is what happens with my car, so why is it doing that? & is it bad?

It's just a little pressure build up I wouldn't worry about it, if your gas cap blows across the parking lot then you need to worry.

It's fine. In fact many cars have a warning label on or near the gas cap that says something along the lines of "remove cap slowly, pressure buildup...blah blah" or something like that

Every car that I've filled up released pressure when the cap was removed. Your old Daewoo probabaly didn't have enough power to put pressure in the gas tank

it happens more often when there is less gas in the tank. its just a buildup of pressure from the liquid gas leaving the tank.

quite normal, no big deal.

On some cars, if you don't have the gas cap on tight enough a check engine light will come on. I don't know why.

A family member of mine had one of these. The problem is you have to take it to the dealer to get the check engine light reset so it stays off. This was a Mitsubishi.

First you buy a Daewoo, now you don't know about pressure in the fuel tank?

its a emissions control. lots of gas vapors escaping your tank is bad for the environment

Remember to put your cigarette in your other hand when you are removing the gas cap.

Don't they all eventually escape anyway?

unburnt gas is bad. its completely inefficient and a waste of resources.

Not the same amount though. Imagine having a jug of water and a jug of water with a hole that gets filled continually so that it's always full, which one will require more water?

actually you just drive it around until the computer is satisfied that the leak in the EVAP system has been fixed (takes a few driving cycles). if you were charged to shut it off manually then you got owned by the dealership.

I've had 2 of these in the last year. I live in Oregon where you can't pump your own gas and the damn gas station attendants don't tighten the cap all the way.

Annoying. Don't take your car to the dealer when this happens btw. They'll try to rip you off. Take it Autozone where they pull the codes for free.

edit: and yeah, Pepsi's right. You just drive around a while and the CEL will eventually clear. Either that or you just pull the negative battery terminal for about 10 seconds, and the car's ECU will reset. Getting charged at the dealer for that = pwned
