Was at a local Nissan dealer the other night looking for a used altima 3.5 with manual transmission. Very hard to find.
Well, mainly becuase I hadn't driven one, I test drove an auto 3.5, 2003, loaded, 15k miles. After a few days of not finding
a manual, I went back to talk seriously about the auto. It looks very clean, and we are starting to negotiate when I ask em
to run a CarFax on it. They do, and go over it in detail (yeah right) showing how great it is. What they didnt' go over was a little
note at the bottom that reported Original sale on 6/24/03 and then Car reported STOLEN 6/24/03. The salescrook played dumb
for a few minutes, then when I started asking more questions, he got the manager. The manager then admited that the original buyer
had used a false DL, and bad checks for the downpayment. The dealership reported it stolen, but it wasn't recovered for two months, during
which time it went from 6 miles to 15000. In TWO MONTHS.
Needless to say, this gave me an extreme case of the willies. However, it still has the original warranty and they are willing to come down
a decent amount. Am I being overly paranoid, or should I RUN LIKE HELL away from this. As I said, the car appears to be in great shape, but I
very concerned about engine abuse in that many miles so quickly.
Whatcha think?
