I'm looking at getting some new tires for my car. The ones that are on there currently are Khumhos, but they're low profile and two are really low on tread - which makes the ride very unpleasant. I'm thinking about picking up a set of Goodyear Aquatred 3's, since I live in rainy FL, and they seem to have great wet and dry traction along with a quiet ride. They're a little pricey, but that's fine. They are also 80k mile tredlife rated

The original tire size that came with my car was 195/55-15, but the closest size that the Aquatreds are offered in is P195/65R15. What exactly would be the difference between these tow sizes?

Do you guys recommend any other good tires that have excellent wet performance?

BridgeStone S-03 pole position

or something like that.

It's a bit expensive but cheaper than the RE040's. Better performer than the RE040's from reviews of users.

Your non-stock tire size would be cause your speedometer to be too slow @6.5%. Your speedo @ 60mph would really mean your car is travelling at 63.9 mph. As long as the wheels are the same, other than that it's prolly no big deal, just thicker sidewall. Personally, if I was driving that size I'd get the Goodyear Eagle RSAs they lasted 57K on my 200SX SER.

No good. That is a big difference. Will adversely affect handling. I got bigger tires, but also wider. From 205/55-16 to 215/55.

i wouldn't go anymore than a 60 if your stock is a 55....

you don't need aquatreads.. a lot of bridgestone tires have really good wet weather traction (Potenza 910) for a good price.. so maybe look into something like that... IMO.

Kumho KH11's @ Tirerack.com

Awesome tires, best part is, they are inexpensive. I live in Florida as well. I also drive an econobox...

Your ride is going to be a little softer.
The height of the tire is all you're changing.
I've done the same on my protege. No big deal.
I still drive the same speed (80) on the highway.

but your acceleration has dropped, and you arent going 80. You are going faster.

Ok, so the increase is actually in height - 195/55-15 to P195/65R15 - right? Visibly, how much do you think it would be? I want a softer ride (stated at the top), so maybe it will help

Bah - I'm not to worried about it. My car originally came with 14 inch rims, but IIRC, the speed difference isn't as large as the other posters have alluded.

Looks like they'll be slightly less than an inch taller.
