how many miles do you get a tank?

My method of determing mileage:
1. Fill up tank. Full tank is 17 gallon. Reset trip meter.
2. Drive until fuel light comes up and gas up. This is usually ~14 gallons.
3. MPG = Miles Driven On Trip/~14. Usually this I've seen 260-340 with the average being around 280 for 14 gallons @ 20 mpg.

You're doing it wrong. Just because it's usually 14 doesn't mean its always 14. Divide miles driven by the actual amount of gas you put in. It's not that complicated, it's on the receipt and the pump after you get gas....

I bet its the "some bumper to bumper traffic" if he sits on the highway barely moving, its wasting a lot of gas for very little milage.

3. Checked the tire pressure?

4. What grade gas are you using?

1.I had an aftermarket viper alarm/remote start installed. Jammed up the breaks and fvcked both the pads and rotors up. The mileage problem pre-dates that incident however.

2. Current mileage 10500. Last oil change 8500.

3. Tire pressures are ~33.

4. 87 octane

I'd like to clarify that is how I have been doing it.

I like in the Queens/Long Island part of NYC. Traffic on highways is the closest to city driving out here, that and the local streets w/ stop signs here and there.

wow that's pretty low for accord for single passenger even for i4. My 05 camry V6 has 17k miles now, it usually goes around 26-27 mpg highway/20 mpg or so in local.

That's abit weird tho, it shouldnt fall that low for i4 accord that's fairly new. Check with your dealer and ask them if that's a common problem.

City driving and high speeds (mpg is kind of like a bell curve, I suppose; you get to a certain point where it stops going up and starts going down again) are going to kill your mileage.

My company Taurus is currently getting 17.8 mpg average. Trunks loaded down, I've been driving extra lead-footedly lately, A/C is on full-blast all the time (sometimes I even have the windows down).

Yay for the gas card!

Hondas dont get good gas milage if you drive normal. Drive 5 miles under the speed limit, never reach cruising speed in less than 1 mile. Usually a person driving an American car will push you out of the way, hence the better MPG.

Lol. I lead foot my 1996 Olds Ciera(V6) with 110k on it around, generally do 80-85mph on the highway. I use cruise control, but other than that I make zero attempt to get better milege. I get 30-32mpg.

City driving is right at 20mpg

You need to take your car into the dealer and have them look at it, that's abnormal. Even thrashing the car, peeling out at every light, hard braking, speeding, the worst I have ever gotten was about 24.5mpg in the city, period. (2004 Accord LX sedan) On average in the city I get about 26-27. Highway about 30-32.

torque converter may not be locking up while crusing. this will affect gas milage by a lot.

Any tips on what to say? Last time I had it in a dealership complaining about mileage they brushed me off and gave me a sheet on how to drive to conserve gas. PFttt.

Talk to 'em again...on that new a car, it's not right.

How did an alarm system installation affect your brakes, though? That I don't get.

I think he's saying that to get the uber mileage you have to use a feather touch on the gas and brake pedals...but Hondas should still get good mileage if you drive "normal". I remember my Celica would barely drop below 30, even when driving fairly aggressively.

I like the bike, though. I can ride any way I want and get 50 mpg, on a vehicle as old as I am

one thing not already mentioned is you can check your air filter to see how dirty it is. I've seen tissues and pieces of styrofoam sucked in before, lol.

Huh?

I have a 1992 Accord, and I get better milage than the OP. I usually get ~25, and I drive aggressively at times. And I use AC.
