How many miles can you drive before changing your synthetic oil?

Whats the best synthetic?

Whats a good bang for the buck synthetic?

I use Mobil 1 in everything but my boat which I use Royal Purple. I go 5000 but I live on a dirt road and I am hard on my vehicles.

Your car has an oil-life indicator that will come on when the oil needs to be changed. You can fully rely on it.

Modern oils can last much, much longer than they did in days of old.

Mine comes on between 10,500 and 11,000 miles.

5-6k.

Though like oldsmoboat I drive like a mad man and can go from 3k rpm to 7krpm without thinking twice.

There is a guy here at work who owns a Corvette and brags that he only has to change his oil every 15k. He is also a ridiculous liar. Can anyone else confirm/deny?

I use beluga whale oil in my vehicles. It's expensive but my cars are worth it and it allows me to go up to 40000 miles between oil changes.

most filters are only good for ~5k miles. so while your oil might be good for 10-15k, you'll have to change the filter and top off the oil between changes.

but if you're changing the filter, you might as well change all of the oil. it's not that expensive.

unless you're one of those people who get a new car every couple of years ... then change it as little as you want.

After extensively researching your question, I have come to the conclusion that the CORRECT answer to your question is THIS.

No more than 25,000 between changes. Or, read the handbook that came with the car.

Oil changes are for sissies. Just drive it till the engine blows and then change the engine. Much easier plus new engine every 100k miles or so.

Just follow the GM Oil Life System or 1 year, whichever comes first on your CTS-V. Depending on the conditions, this can be as low as 2000 miles to as high as 12,500 miles. As long as you use a good oil filter, it will last the entire duration of the service interval.

This vehicle needs a GM 4718M approved synthetic oil. Mobil 1 5w-30 is approved for this specification.

I do 8-10k on my CTS and Corvette. I use what ever syn oil is the cheapest at the time as long as its 5w30.

Reg. oil for most cars can do 5k easy. So if you change you oil at 5k or less then syn will be a waste for most.

So many people in the US still have that BS "every 3000miles..." built in. Yet engines are much better then they use to be and even the basic reg. oil today is much better as well. In europe they do 15k on their oil for just about most cars if not longer for some. And a lot of there cars are Turbo with smaller motors that have to rev higher and work harder. Yet they do nto have any more internal engine failures then the US.

I go 5000 miles between changes with synthetic.

Best is subjective.

Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum are great bang for your buck synthetics.

I've got 7k on my '08 Accord and just got my first oil change.

Should I switch to synthetic from here on out? What are the benefits?

You can if you like. The only benifits you MIGHT see are longer drain periods. If you do 5k oil changes then just reg. oil like havoline, motorcraft, etc...
If you want to go for around 10k, check owners manual as you are still under warranty, then use Syn oil. I use the cheapest syn I can find each time.

Now if the book says the max is 7500miles or something like that then what I would do while under warranty is use motorcraft 5w20 (or 5w30). It is a semi syn and can do 5-7k easy for most cars.

Also do not use Fram oil filters.
