I had a Cougar, it was fine if a bit cheap. It had decent power but the transmission was really notchy. And it had torque steer something fierce for only putting out the power that it did.

His car should do 0 to 60 somewhere in the mid 7 second range, probably. Although his is an automatic so tack on a bit of time. Speaking of which, if he is such a car geek why is he driving an automatic then?

Maxima should be quicker and faster.
I don't think my Cougar ever saw the far side of 130.

yup. it weighs as much as my station wagon and handles a LOT worse. it's also extremely uncomfortable and has super touchy throttle and brakes to make it "seem" fast, and one of ford's signature crappy stereos.

Btw, my car goes 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, and the 1/4 in 30 seconds.

They are both family cars, not sports cars so who cares really? 7 seconds? 8 seconds? Still slow but that's not what the car is made for so it doesn't really matter.
