However, pickups and SUVs generally are heavier than cars, so occupant deaths are less likely to occur in multiple-vehicle crashes.

It's true that large vehicles are safer in collisions with smaller vehicles. That's basic physics. No one denies that. However, even your quote says that pickups and SUV's are proportionally more dangerous in collisions not involving a smaller vehicle, hence is why the death rate for these vehicles are higher.
Let's also not forget the small car category includes econoboxes like the geo prizm, or the daewoo's. Deaths from these vehicles are not representative of deaths in a much higher class vehicle such as the Subaru Impreza. Your link does not paint the whole picture.

I am sure the Impreza is a very safe car...but:

"STI was crushed between two semis and got away scott free with scratches."

is a joke.

It's not a joke. It really happened. It was an 02 WRX though (not an STi). Text

It means there's a catch to this awesome safety rating. That being that it's top of the heap... FOR SMALL CARS. In the overall scheme of things, if safety is important, keep shopping.
Do you think before you speak or does all of it just come out of your ass? IIRC, the IIHS tests all cars the same way. It got the same test ratings as some 5,000lbs SUV that got the Gold rating also. They're just saying out of small cars to give it a category, doesn't make it less safe moron.

Not to mention you can much more easily steer out of harms way with a subaru impreza. That in itself will save you far more than any safety feature.
Not surprised they got first, considering these cars were designed to withstand crashes, as car damage and collisions are extremely rampant in WRC.
Aren't bikes more maneuverable than any car?

It's harder to ride one, and there's much more ways to get into an accident. You could just lose your balance, and you will fall. You can't lose balance with a car.
Plus on top of that, having the most death does not equate to having the most accidents. It's true that bike riders are for more likely to die from an accident than a car, but do they get into accidents as often as cars do?

Tell me, how do you just "lose balance" on a bike. You've obviously never been on one. You probably think you lean to turn a bike, too. :disgust:

Like I said before, take it up with IIHS
don't compare ratings across vehicle size groups because size and weight influence occupant protection in serious crashes. Larger, heavier vehicles generally afford more protection than smaller, lighter ones. Top Safety Picks are the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories, but this doesn't mean a small car that's a Top Safety Pick affords more protection than a bigger car that doesn't earn the award.
