I ordered 4 new tires for my wife's car through them. The Maxima is riding on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires now. They are expensive but what a difference. The car feels more responsive and the handling is back to they way it was when the car was new. What a difference good tires makes!

Anyway, Tire Rack was easy to deal with. I had the tires shipped directly to a local tire shop so all I had to do was drive over there yesterday and have them installed. Still, I parted with $900...

How long does it take for a special order to arrive? I ran over a piece of metal with a runflat and no one carries that particular brand/size.

I placed the order on a Thursday with ground shipping and the tires were there 3 days later. The installer called me and I set up an appointment for the install and an alignment.

Edit-They had the tires in stock so I don't know about any special order items.

They had a few in my area. The one I went to was one I've been going to for years so I had experience with them. They didn't mind that I didn't buy the tires from them either. I talked with the owner for a while, nice guy and he thanked me when I left.

I don't know about special orders, but for some strange reason their Fedex 2 day and 3-day prices are usually only a $1 or so apart, and both are usually cheaper than UPS ground.

I went with the cheapest. I think that happened to be Fed Ex 3 day delivery. My tires were in stock at their Louisiana location.

I've heard TireRack is a great company. However, I would advise against having the tires shipped to your place of work as some other moron here on the forums had done. :Q

No, but the guy who ordered them and had them sent to work was all embarrased when 4 tires arrived at the receiving department.

Edit: Here's the link to the thread I was referencing: TireRack.com

Michelins are over rated. And WAY overpriced.

Actually, their sidewalls are thin (can't tell you how many I have come in with blown sidewalls). The reason they do this is because they like to be an OEM tire. What matters most on a test drive is noise level, ride and that oh so important EPA mileage rating. The thin sidewalls help with all of these.

I've had great luck with Toyos, Yokohamas, Continentals and Dunlops.

Goodyears and Pirellis are two more brands I've learned to stay away from.

Well, the Michelin Pilot Sport is a W speed rated tire. I don't expect long life out of them. Hell, the crappy Blowtenzas only made it to 28k miles.

They don't make a Yokohama in the 225/50-17 size that would fit my car.

I disagree. I'm very impressed with these tires so far. I'd get them again.

Well then we agree to disagree.

I was aware that my view wouldn't be popular.

they do, but since I have 5 tire places within a quarter mile of my primary place of employment, I didn't use them.

no, that was me and my recieving department damn near killed me... I figured they would have come with a little more packaging than a freaking plastic bag and zip ties...

WhyTF would you expect the tires to be "packaged"? They are tires...

Why did your shipping department freak out?

I totally agree with it. I used to only buy Michelin, but their prices got way too steep, and their competition caught up. Guess there's only so much engineering that can go into a tire. They long ago reached the point of diminishing returns, and even a middle of the road tire of today, is better than the best tires of a decade ago.
