Michelins are over rated. And WAY overpriced.

Actually, their sidewalls are thin (can't tell you how many I have come in with blown sidewalls). The reason they do this is because they like to be an OEM tire. What matters most on a test drive is noise level, ride and that oh so important EPA mileage rating. The thin sidewalls help with all of these.

I've had great luck with Toyos, Yokohamas, Continentals and Dunlops.

Goodyears and Pirellis are two more brands I've learned to stay away from.

I disagree. I'm very impressed with these tires so far. I'd get them again.

Well then we agree to disagree.

I was aware that my view wouldn't be popular.

Depends on the tire. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 are absolutely awesome for street tires, as are the older Pilot Sport's. I haven't had a chance to try out the Pilot Sport Cup yet, but those have a great reputation for DOT legal competition (up there with Yok A048's & Pirelli P-Zero Corsa's). Michelin's are also relatively light, which makes a big difference in handling (ever try some of those super-heavy Bridgestone S03's?).

There are Michelins and there are Michelins. There are certain high end models that are top shelf no doubt. For example, I have a friend that did the One Lap of America on one set of Michelins on a Mallett Corvette - they were indestructible and he finished 11th overall in a field of over 100 cars. That's about a week of pounding on various race tracks and several thousand miles of highway driving.

But, for the most part their passenger car tires leave a lot to be desired.

I'm just saying I'm seeing a lot of manufacturing defects vs other tires. And I'm in that line of work - sort of.

I used tires.com for all my tire purchases, and had the tires mounted and balanced at Costco. Cheap and reliable.

That seems like a route I need to take. I was considering going through TireRack and then having a local shop mount and balance the tires. I was quoted a price of $28.00 per wheel to mount and balance the tires. Ahh ... no thanks.

Keep an eye out for specials once spring rolls around, depending on where you live. Up here in NH, in the spring they have specials on mounting and balancing four tires because people are switching out their winter tires for their "rest of the year" ones.

Something like this might not happen in areas where there isn't bad winter weather though...

Different tire category. Michelins are in the Ultra High Performance All-Season, while the Yokohamas are in the "standard touring" all-season category. The Yokohamas are in the category reserved for land barges, while the Michelins are in the category reserved for canyon carvers. The ratings don't hold outside of the tires' respective category.

Very true, they are different categories. The Pilot Sport A/S really don't perform THAT much better though, being 400 treadwear all season tires.

Too bad they don't offer a warranty on the Pilot Sport Cup.

I've heard TireRack is a great company. However, I would advise against having the tires shipped to your place of work as some other moron here on the forums had done. :Q
Someone at work take them?

no, that was me and my recieving department damn near killed me... I figured they would have come with a little more packaging than a freaking plastic bag and zip ties...

they actually came with a plastic bag? I ordered from discounttiredirect.com, they just came with some tape wrapped around them, in sets of 2.

Hot damn! $900 for tires! Sheesh. I was complaining about $500 for the Kumhos I put on my car. I quite like them though. For an all-season they don't feel any less sticky then the UHP Yokos they replaced.

You'd probably get them next day since you're in Michigan and their main warehouse is in South Bend, IN.

Planning to get a new set of tires within 2 wks, going for just the passenger all-season, nothing fancy, for 02 Honda Accord (going on 71K on original set).

The Goodyear Assurance TripleTred got the best reviews. Any final thoughts before I pull the trigger?

You really think they're worth 1/3 more than the Yokohamas?

Funny that the Uniform Tire Quality Grade Standards doesn't jibe with the consumer survey data.
