Will this be your ONLY car? That'll make a huge difference in recommendations.

Once again, 'man-card' and 'acceptable mid-life crisis car card' retention are both at stake with this recommendation

edit - hahaha that was a quick edit - I didn't even end up quoting the original post

Then I was thinking. Why am I trying to be sensible? I'll just do that when I'm older.

Because no matter how hard you try, you cannot overcome the power of compound interest when you're older. If you invest thousands now, you'll have millions in 40 years.

If you can afford to invest a lot in a 401k and IRA now, and buy a car and that's what you want, go for it.

Personally, I'd put money into a house and an awesome home theater.

If it's your only car then you'll want to get something newer like many of the suggestions: M3, S2000, etc.

If you have another car to daily drive then get something crazy like an early 90's Lotus Esprit. Now THAT is a mid-life crisis car.

I was thinking about price range. I though V8 stang cost more then $30k after tax. There is nothing wrong with a V6 stang. It looks good and fuel efficient comapre to V8.

Do you really want to pay $60-70 everytime you wanta fuel ur tank for the hell of a mid-life crsis? most chicks couldn't tell the difference.

But you could. Last I checked, the mileage difference wasn't all that impressive, either - the 8-cylinder engine in the mustang is much newer technology.

Personally I think all Mustangs use too much gas, and sadly, that would probably stop me from buying one.

Isn't the V6 in the new Mustang a brand new DOHC unit? That's much newer than the 4.6 that they've been using for some time now.

The current SOHC 4.0L V6 is newer than the 3.8 V6 it replaced, but it's not a new design, it's the same V6 used in the Ranger and Explorer, just tweaked to give more torque.

The current SOHC 24-valve 4.6L V8 is completely brand new and replaces the previous SOHC 16-valve 4.6L V8. Main differnces is that has VVT, 3-valves/cylinder, and uses regular unleaded to get 300HP/320TQ. It made Ward's 10 best engines list in '05 and '06.
Mileage is like 17/25 MPG for the V8 - which is better than my 3.0L V6 Camry.

Get a used '03 or '04 Mustang Cobra instead - it's more bang for the buck. (DOHC, 32-valve, forged-internals, factory supercharged)

Low mileage 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo? A lot of fun and still reasonably practical.

I fill up a Lincoln with a V8 for $35/tank with Premium. I don't know which orifice you're pulling that "$60-70" out of...

You calling something like that "The Terminator" just adds to the stereotype of Mustangs/Cobras.
