Oh yeah, the 2005 Honda Civic LX! It's got amazing features such as: power windows, power locks, air conditioning, power mirrors, 5 speed transmission, and even a dome light. However, it really is a sweet car, and it looks pretty classy especially considering how cheap it is. I got the color Magnesium Metallic (or vice versa, can't remember), anyways it's a dark silver color and it's money. I got pretty much the exact car I wanted, so I'm excited. It replaced a 22 year old hand me down BMW 320is that was falling apart like crazy. It turns out a 22 year old BMW handles and accelerates about the same as a new Civic.

You better have a state-of-the-art security system in there too. I'm getting sick of the "OMGMYCIVICGOTSTOLEN" threads here

I don't, but I hope you're joking. Anyways, I live in a pretty safe area, at least currently. Much of the reason for getting this car was the cost effectivness/cheapness of it, so a security system seemed like an unneccasary add on considering there is nothing in the car worthwhile other than the car.

Uh - you do know that the Civic is one of the most stolen vehicles around, right?

Insurance rates for that car are going to upset the cost effectiveness of it.... Get an alarm too.

Congrats!

Sold my '02 Civic. It was too plain for a $350 / month car payment and I really didn't feal like having a car payment that big making $10/hr. So I sold it and bought a '97 I30 for $6800 and a 3 year warranty. My car payment is now $194.

Not exactly. Other makes/models are stolen more frequently, but they are recovered (real sports cars for example). Civics are stolen and never found again since they are easilly disassembled and sold for parts.

Civics rule. Got a 2002 Civic LX myself. 16k sounds steep. Did they raise the price that much in the last 3 years? I got mine for 14k.

I don't know about you, marcello, though. You haven't stuck out in posts for me to get a good impression of you. Thus I think I should vote that the car rules and you suck.

I just did a price on the insurance. It appears to be $60-$75 a month for a 2005 Civic LX (depending on options) for full coverage and $500 deductable. Certainly not a very high price.

My '02 Civic LX had insanely high full coverage insurance. My company said it's because of "theft".

They aren't bad, and props on the 5 speed, but that design is about 15 years old now (ok maybe I'm exagerating - 12)

Mine is at $50 a month with State Farm. Maybe you need to change insurance companies (or agents).

let's play "how much is your insurance for your 1998 honda civic lx?"

1. my zip code is in Los Freaking Angeles, near downtown.
2. i carry full insurance because i am paranoid of all the stupid uninsured drivers (you're out there, no matter how illegal it is. and yes you drive without a license too and hope you never get caught... but you still drive like crap and don't look when you back out, ass)
3. i have NO accidents, NO tickets, a spotless record. my accident that was not a fault was over three years ago.
4. my deductible is at 1,000.00. i try to set my other limits as low as possible, i don't have medical coverage, but i think my property damage is at 50k.

yearly premium: 1898. that's the cheapest i've found, with AAA. they do give me additional discounts, such as a repeat member discount, good driver, my car is garaged, i have an alarm, and i also have a renter's insurance policy with them, so after all that it's down to like 1700. big whoopee friggin do.

why would u get a 05 civic? they really haven't changed the body style, and you'll take a hit in price since its new. as for an alarm, do you want remote start? if so, add another 100 bucks since you will need a bypass unit, so viper 771 with remote start, alarm, and keyless entry should run about $420 installed.

Full coverage on Civics IS expensive. Mine is also high because of high theft rates and all those damn kids who mod their hondas.

I'm driving a 94 Civic (love it) and paying $100/mo. That's a perfect record - no accidents or tickets. 23 years old. Great choice on the car.

edit: 2,000th post.

too bad they are making a new body style on them next year, effectively dropping the value of your car by about 20%.

Yes, they are in the top 10 cars stolen in US, and it does sound like you paid a little high.

I got my '03 EX Civic with Honda Care 100k warranty for 15k out the door.

$100,000/$300,000 for everything. Married over 25 helps a lot with no accidents or tickets that count against me. One accident was my fault as another driver ran a red light and rear ended me (cop said I should have realized she was going to run the red light so gave me the ticket). But State Farm lets one accident slide every 3 years. Almost forgot. Added $200 to the price of the Civic for side airbags and that saved me nearly $10 a month on insurance. Best $200 I ever spent.

A good zip code does help lower the price. I'm just saying that a Civic doesn't mean the insurance will necessarilly be outrageous. It may be high in some specific cases, but not always. You too can get quotes online in a few minutes to check.

Remember, even within a company like State Farm, one agent may quote you something that is double or triple the agent in the room next to him/her. Always shop around.
