*200-500HP and 45 mpg
*less than 1800lbs
*AC and power steering
*AWD option

?

Once the rear is emptied of batteries, it has a ton of cargo room.

The aluminum frame is phenomenally stiff, and handles amazingly with the right tires, stiffer springs and some sway bars.

EDIT: Plus, I tow with mine, even with the stock ~80HP hybrid system.

My wife and I used to do Costco-type shopping, including bulk paper towels, with my Miata. We could always make it work, and you have the option of removing the passenger seat! Obviously it is your call though...

I would go for the CRZ over the Mini for maintenance frustrations alone.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Looks like the CR-Z is still in contention. Mini is probably out unless I can find one so cheap I can put the savings into a repair fund (I'm not sure I could resist a $6k JCW Cooper either). And if I find the right priced Miata, I suppose I could requisition the Prius on the days I need hauling ability.

As mentioned if you care about driving and economy and some space the best choice is probably the brz.

oh fuck guys, I don't know if I can stop myself.

A fully loaded 2006 cooper s with full maintenance records for $6k. The only caveat is there are 5 previous owners - the first owner owned the car for 5 years and put 100k miles on it. The next 4 owners over the next 6 years put 35k miles on it. It appears to be an above average specimen.

That one was still supercharged right? Those were OK. The turbo ones were a disaster though.

yep, last year of the supercharged models. the shifter is terrible and it's actually more go-karty than I remembered.

After 2 days of actually driving this I know I made the right call - Jesus Christ this car is so much fun.

Also: my tire pressure/DSC/ABS lights are intermittently on, aka the trifecta. I'm now officially a Mini owner.

Congrats! I haven't had those lights come on intermittenty, but my check engine light has been on and off for a few years now (knock sensor buried in the engine I believe).

Super fun and really look sharp, better than new ones. I almost bought a JCW in that color.

I'm 9 days into daily driving this thing and it's already been in the shop once. I'm slated for more $$$ in repairs than I've spent in 3 years of Prius ownership. LOL

I mean granted some of this stuff should've been done by the previous owner, but my god, fun is expensive.

Hey on the plus side, the first round of repairs was only $1k, which was also the amount that got knocked off the seller's already reduced asking price.

There are plenty of fun, inexpensive cars

I'm still only $7k into this thing, so for my calculations it's still reasonable given the driver comfort + fun provided by the Mini. We'll see where the math ends up a year from now...

I thought I was a real Mini owner on Wednesday, but no, today I truly became a mini owner - I'm stranded on the side of the freeway waitin for a tow truck.

This may have been a terrible mistake.

Everyone tried to tell you that.

My mechanic owned a mini, for a few months. He took the car from a customer in some sort of legal action who got to far into the repairs he was unable to pay the bill . And then after fixing it all up he drove it instead of his truck because it had better mileage, then proceeded to spend at least a hour a day fixing minor things here and there on it over the next few months, and decided that working 8 hours a day as a mechanic was enough he didnt want to spend his off time working on his own car so he sold it cheap and warned me never even to consider buying one. He told me he spent more hours working on that mini in 3 months of ownership than he had spent on his truck(90's chev 3/4 ton) in 15 years.

The official bible of Mini ownership.

Don't forget this. I actually had a shitfaced grin the whole time I was waiting for the tow as this car is turning out to be everything it was promised to be.
