Are the electric shavers with the 3 round blades better than the kind with the single long blade thing?

i've used one like the braun in the 2nd link but never one like the philips-norelco.

which ones are better?


yes, "straight blade razors are better"...we hear it all the time but i'm not asking about those.

I've used both.

I like my Braun because it has the self-clean. I think there are some of the round-bladed that do that now too. The round-bladed that I had before was kinda cheap and crappy, so I might be jaded.

For the record, I do not grow a lot of facial hair. That may or may not make a difference.

When I first started shaving I used a pretty cheap "single long" electric...the past razors I've used have been "3 round".

I'm not sure which is better, per se, but I like the 3 round because (unless you go cheap cheap) the blades have the ability to flex a little more and thus make it easier to get all the hair on your neck/adam's apple area.

I have a braun and a norelco - the Braun is nice because of the self cleaning/charging nature, and it's more comfortable, but the Norelco does a much better job. In particular the Braun is bad in the neck area.

I have a very heavy beard that grows in different directions on different sides of my face. Norelco 3-blade razors are the only ones that shave my neck effectively. I have both a Braun self-clean razor and a $40 Norelco 3-blade razor, and the Norelco works infinitely better on my beard. The only place where the Braun works more effectively is my upper lip. But the Norelco does a decent job there too, just not as good.

I really think it depends on the type of hair and your skin elasticity. Try 'em both and see which one you like better.

Anyway, I like the hi-end Brauns. They cut well and seem to be built better.
They also need less frequent maintenance.
