A police officer actually doing his job, he may have took it to far and it sounds like he didn't know what the current law is in that state. The $8 million verdict is a complete joke.

PS: We really do need a National ID law.
Papers please! Show me your papers!

Yeah that screams free society.

“If you retell this story, and you make this family into three white woman, I think you get a very different result.”

Police require probable cause. Please, in detail, describe what was their probable cause in approaching and asking for the ID of these women?

Common sense is shit.
Stop assuming.
Go find a cop.
Ask him/her.
You may be surprised at the answer.
Common sense scenario.

Cops pulls into parking lot and runs plates. Discovers it's a rental.
Talks to woman. When she says, "I rented a car" case closed.

In case you missed it the NCAA Womans Final 4 was held Sun. The 2 players in the picture were stars in the final game. Both used this hand gesture as a taunt. The entire country was fine with one of them. A large part of the country had a problem with the other. Guess who and why.

There was a not so subtle difference (not the one you're thinking) in the two incidents. One was brief, in the heat of the game, and not in someone's face following them around for ~10s and accompanied by another gesture.

If you add up all the gestures by CC to all her opponents during the tournament it adds up to well over 10 sec including a disrespectful hand wave off to an opponent because she refused to guard her and let it be known. My point if it's good for one it's good for all. They should be treated equally. I watched four of Iowa's games because my son turned me on to her. She is undoubtedly the best player in college, period. Steph Curry said if you are going to shimmy your opponents prepare to get it back.

Again, Clark's stuff was heat of the moment in game and one of the widely cited ones was in response to another player mouthing off to her (the "shut up, you're down by 15"). Also, as you cited across 5/6 separate games.

Reese's was planned, targeted, and just petty. I'm fine with trash talk. But there's a difference between that and a player chasing down an opposing player all over the court in the final seconds of the game. It also makes little sense in the context of the game. Yeah, LSU won. But it's not like Reese shut down or outperformed Clark.

I didn't see this until today, when I was digging around for something else.
Article is from February.

For those who dont want to peruse: Some Dems tried to pass a bill that overhauls policing. They actually talked to a republican about it and got some concessions but they could not agree on one major component, Qualified Immunity. And without looking I bet you already know how this goes.
The Dems wanted to severely restrict qualified immunity and of course the republican wanted to keep it. Of course even if this bill did pass you know damn well GOP run states would probably just ignore it, as they do anything civil-rights related, tell people to take it to the supreme court and young black men would die for years before somebody did something.

But yeah, as of right now, there is no massive police reform bill going forward at the federal level.

If you are black on an airplane and the white man takes your assigned seat, the white man gets it. Think it works that way in reverse?

Why the hell wouldn't they enforce seat assignment?

traveled from Vancouver to Calgary on Canada’s Flair Airlines
Well, on the... plus(?) side... it's not just a USA thing. Would have expected better from Canada though, hopefully they get justice from Canadian law.

Karen gets an ass beating after spitting on a black woman. I approve the response and applaud it.
Damn Karen went from tough to cowering up saying "I'm sorry! I'm Sorry!" in a millisecond. While I'm not usually a fan of violence as the answer. I give the lady an A+ on how she dealt with this bitch. It's even more satisfying because she did this while holding a camera and filming it all. And readin thru the comments a decent number of people want to Cashapp her some $, which is fuckin awesome lol.

Sadly, the other side will probably start a successful Gofundme to help Karen recover from being brutally attacked by this obvious thug.

Yeah , I thought Canada was better then the US when it comes to that kind of stuff. I'll have to follow-up to see if the company pays any kind of penalty.

If airline wanted to do the right thing, they will offer that family free travel anywhere they serve with a public apology.

That white woman will probably never learn, buy a gun (depending on the State) and shoot next time.
That will be the next step Republicans and right wing media promote. In the new scanario, white woman spits on black woman. Black woman beats her ass and white woman shoots and kills the black woman. If in a state like Texas or Florida the white woman is exonerated.

This is the chaos Republicans are promoting.

Under normal legal circumstances (depending on state specifics) the act of spitting would eliminate using the defense of the SYG laws as it's likely a crime where she's at. Most of those are set up to prevent it being used in the event that the confrontation started due to a different crime. In this case, assault/battery.

I said "normal" because we left that legal world quite some time ago. Now, it's at best a toss up whether or not sanity would prevail in the legal process.

You are assuming someone is there to witness the black woman being spit on. That was Trayvon Martin's problem, no witnesses. That's why people like me have to ensure our phones are always recording because we don't get the benefit of the doubt.

I wonder if that case would have changed if his phone was recording to the cloud the entire time?

Another black man wrongfully convicted on bullshit evidence and spending 29 years in prison for it. The state better give him millions for the years he lost, even though that cannot make up for the life he could have lived.
after pleading not guilty in a trial in which the victim did not testify – instead, adults testified “to what they believed she had said,”

I believe states have been having them sign away their right to get restitution as part of their condition for release. Its really fucked up. Its less that they're threatening to not release them, but rather its a "sign this and you'll be out this afternoon" vs making them go through extended release, wherein that puts them at risk (I think its pretty common for prisoners to get attacked when its known they're up for release soon and/or other harassment with the intent of getting them to do something which can net them charges ensuring they spend more time in prison).

Actually maybe I'm wrong and they really are making them choose:

Our justice system is such a fucked sham.

Another black man wrongly convicted by an all white jury won't get a dime.

I don't understand why Kevin can't sue the state in federal court for civil rights violations and get compensation.

Holy shit...

42 years in prison! I'm 48, what a shitty story, fuck.

Elon Musk money wouldn't make this bullshit right, but for him to not be able to get even a dime? I hope he ends up getting the largest Gofundme ever. Money won't change 4+ decades in prison but this guy shouldn't have to struggle to survive after spending that long in prison.

Strickland previously told The Star that he plans to stay with one of his brothers for a short time. During an interview with ABC News, he quipped about having so little that he might use a cardboard box to “get up under a bridge somewhere.”

The reporter asked if he was being serious.

I hope to God the reporter didn't actually ask him that. No, he was just kidding, this black man who's in a wheelchair and has been incarcerated for 42 years is going to go get a cushy 6 figure job with Google and buy a big home.
