It's still a concept in America 2023. There are multiple threads here showing black people being accosted because angry white people claim, "you don't belong here". Yet some people here claim it's partially or equally black people's fault.
I find it troubling how a lot of people react to stories like Trayvon. It's bad enough when the Ahmaud Arbery story 1st hit with no details yet other than he was killed. People were already convinced he was a thug. And any info that surfaced that made Arbery look bad they ran with. When most of it wasn't even real. "he stole power tools while he was there" "he has a long criminal history" They don't even look to verify anything that's negative and just treat it like the gospel. And when the facts came out that he hadn't stolen anything, and he hadn't been in and out of prison. They still made him the bad guy "if he hadn't grabbed the shotgun, he'd still be alive today. So that's his fault" Somehow in their minds, the person who chased and cornered a black man with a shotgun. Was justified to shoot him in self defense. Sad and apparently, he deserved to die because they believe he stole some tools. Which was disproven but they refuse to accept facts.
And Trayvon, Zimmerman's story seemed pretty legit, he admitted to following a kid who he hadn't seen do anything wrong and admitted to confronting him with a gun knowing he shouldn't have. Still so many of the people online talking about the story were 100% sure Trayvon was the bad guy here. Zimmerman's story makes him sound like a racist shitbag. And to me at least, Trayvon was defending himself. "Trayvon should have called the cops" but for some reason the people who said that were on Zimmerman's side, apparently he shouldn't have called the cops. And when the m
When you hear stories like Mike Brown, George Floyd, Eric Garner and dozens more. So many people vilify the [black] person who got murdered. "Floyd was high as a kite" And maybe it's just me, but in the examples I brought up where they died so we can't hear their side of the story. What has come out in the media, to me they should all still be alive. Floyd passed a fake $20, that he may or may not have even known was fake, and the cop kneeled on his neck for 8 minutes and he died. Arbery stopped a few times to look at a house being worked on and ended up dead. Garner was selling loose cigarettes and he died. And while Trayvon did confront George, George had been following him and got out his truck with a gun. So he clearly had bad intentions. And the "well Floyd shouldn't have been fighting back" Just speculation but if a cop was ever kneeling with his body weight on my neck after 4-5 minutes if I was still alive, I bet I'd be trying to fight back too. I remember in 91 when people were saying Rodney King shouldn't have been resisting the cops and trying to fight them. I saw the same video everyone else did. In what world shouldn't he have been fighting back? I understand they were cops, but holy fuck he was getting beat to death.
And even after dying a lot of people still paint them as thugs. This goes exactly the same for almost every story about a black person getting killed by the police, or somebody like Zimmerman or the father and son who chased Arbery. They also blame them for dying.
"Trayvon shouldn't have approached him" he'd been following Trayvon for a buncha blocks for no reason, so it seems reasonable to me
"Arbery's own doing, if he hadn't tried to grab the shotgun he wouldn't have gotten shot and died, and he should have never stopped to case the house" Imaging people thinking him stopping to look at a house deserved being shot.
"Floyd was high on drugs, he died from a heart attack from drugs the cop kneeling on his neck for over 8 minutes wasn't what killed him" Imagine being okay with what the cop did here, absolutelyfuckinnuts. And in these stories, there's never any doubt in a lot of people's minds that the black person is always somehow the one in the wrong.
