I'm pasty white and I felt perfectly safe in Camden, New Jersey when I stayed at the Ronald McDonald House there when I went to CHiP (Children's Hospital in Philadelphia) back in 2003. For those who don't know Camden is just across the Philadelphia River from downtown and is a majority-black city. I'm a smoker and ended up spending quite a bit of time outside the house and never even heard a gunshot, hell I hardly even saw 20 people until the next day when we went into Philly.

I was more worried about my girlfriend and our unborn baby girl that we were trying desperately to save by seeing the top neuro-natal specialists east of the Mississippi River.

Long story short our dreams were smashed and it destroyed the person I was due to our archaic abortion laws in this country, 3rd trimester abortions being illegal and all unless of course, the mother is dying.

She gave birth to a baby that suffered for 20 minutes before dying due to her little heart exploding trying to pump blood through a tumor that was half her weight growing off her tailbone. I am still pissed that we were both put through that.

Who is Umar? And I guess you were unaware interracial marriage was illegal in this country until Loving v Virginia. That was white people responsible for that.

The difference is in the rougher, mostly black areas they're not on a mission to fuck with any white person they see. And they tend to treat all outsiders with a degree of suspicion. I'm not saying some of the black people in those areas don't harbor resentment towards Caucasian people. But they don't outwardly show it, and while some do exist, you rarely see a black Karen or Bob. I've been in more than a few bad areas that were predominately black. Do you know who I got the most shit from? The police "Do you live here? No? well, you have no business being here" And then I'd get accused of being there to buy drugs. From the residents, at most, I'd get a nasty stare. But my black friends would get the same stare, so it was probably because they were untrusting of people who didn't live there and had nothing to do with skin color. I've been in a lot of areas and never once had someone yelling at me and threatening and assaulting me while recording the shit saying "HELP he's hitting me!" As they were attacking me. And I've never felt unsafe, in those areas they're not gonna fuck with you unless you fuck with them first. And in all the Karen videos, it's pretty clear the person they're going ape shit on did nothing to provoke them.

Umar Johnson is one of the examples of a black man who would probably act like a male Karen in real life around white people. I've been in South Central LA where the 5%'ers are at. They openly don't care for Caucasians, but they never started shit with me.

There were a lot of Asian owned business burned and looted while at least some Black owned businesses were protected in Baltimore in 2015 around the time of Freddie Gray’s death. Some even considered it “payback” for how Asian store owners had treated Black customers previously.
NPR coverage - a lot of other articles are paywall protected now, that was a neutral source I could quickly find.

I’m only aware of it as I was on duty in a neighboring fire department when one of the worst days started. We sent a lot of units into Baltimore to assist, and there was a lot of contemporary coverage of it.

But, something a lot of folks outside the fire service and law enforcement don’t know is that any fire in a place of worship is automatically a federal/ATF investigation. I’ve had a few fires where there were more federal agents than firefighters on location by the time I left.

It is my understanding's from several arson investigators that I know/work with, is that one of the main reasons behind that is in certain parts of the country, Black churches had a habit of burning down with few cases of the local law enforcement bringing anyone to justice.

Obviously I don’t have historical crime numbers to prove it, but it’s my experience that racially motivated arson has been targeted towards Black people a lot more than by them.

Read the coverage, they were specifically attacked because they were Asian, something on the order of 100 Asian owned stores were burned and looted.

Edit: I think I responded a bit fast, and thought you were attributing it solely to unrest, but agreed it doesn’t do any good.

It happened to be a time where non-Black businesses were targeted by Black communities that I was personally aware of/peripherally involved in responding to. I don’t particularly look for stories that fit that type, but was offering for discussion.
