Try 96...

excuse me...96, still his type of music is a far cry from what I grew up listening to.

Run DMC, Sir Mix a Lot ,Beastie Boys, NWA, Public Enemey, Father MC, Heavy D. Not saying it was better, it probably was just the time. Now besides these guys the only rap I will actually buy is more Roots/Tribe sytle.

[Edit] just wanted to say thanks to anxi80. I don't understand how they were able to stay off the radar for so long. After I listened to their album I kept expecting to see them on MTV. I would have loved to see a video of "mics of the round table."

To each his own. I "grew up" listening to everything from 80's pop to Pac & Biggie

LOL...yeah, I didn't really dig both sides of the brain as much as 3rd eye but "proto culture" always makes me laugh. "We get the games you can't rent at Blockbuster"

Depends on my mood. If I'm just by myself and listening for the lyrics, then its probably 'Reasonable Doubt' and 'The Blueprint'. But if I'm with friends or just driving around then I like to bump 'In my Lifetime' and 'Hard Knock Life'...good club songs on each. I don't even own the 'Black Album' yet, never liked Blueprint 2.0 or 2.1 or whatever it was.

Good taste in Old Skool azazyel. That is what I grew up on too. I love a lot of modern hip hop but admittedly some of it is so repetitive. I often break out my Old Skool MP3s and listen to a time when rap was new and more innocent. I have nothing against Jay-Z but I am not his biggest fan either. In other words I can take him or leave him.

Jay-Z is an *okay* rapper, therefore I don't own any of his CDs. His music doesn't really do much for me. If I had to pick one I guess it would be Reasonable Doubt.
