YAG(uitar)T: Good quality, light weight guitar?

I've played for ~3 years, now. I play both acoustic and electric, and mostly rythm and rock. I get into some blues-ish stuff, just for a change once in a while. Anyway, I currently have a Fender Strat, and I love the way it plays, but its really heavy.

Anyone know of a lighter weight guitar that is good quality. It must be a solid body electric. I would like something with a nice crisp sound, out of the box, but I could always add different pickups. My dream guitar, right now, is the Ibanez JS1200CA, but that's a little expensive. Something in the <$650 range would be nice.

A lightweight guitar will not have the same sustain and "feel" as one that is more dense, structurally speaking.
A Tele is lighter than a Strat and both of those are lighter than a Les Paul.

You can find lighter ones, but they generally suck, unless you're going to go with a Modeling pick up / synth set up like a Roland VG system, in which case your wallet must be thicker than than the guitar...

An older 80's model Ibanez RG would be great if you can stand it's appearance. Otherwise the lighter the guitar, the less sustain and solidness it'll have.

buy a carvin bolt. carvin.com carvin guitars are by far the best bang for the buck in the world. Literally. Can't be challenged.

If you're looking for lighter, try a semi or full hollowbody. With every other lighter choice you'll lose sustain and overall power.

Thanks. I think that I'll stick with my Strat, until I can afford what I really want. I have it set up exactly how I want it, so I'll just deal with the weight. It's really not that bad, until you have been playing for a long time. I guess its a good sign that my hands are getting strong enough to play over an hour, without strain.

I personally play a Schecter C-1+ with a Duncan JB in the bridge. I love it. $1000 guitar for a fraction of the cost.

I thought that the fender Strat was already a "light" guitar.

The tele is a little heavier, but it's one of my faves, especially that famous "lipstick" neck.
