Time finally came and a few days ago I bought my first pistol. Been waiting to do this for awhile and it's nice to finally have something. Haven't been able to shoot it yet though. So gonna give it a once over cleaning and then take it out in the next couple of days.

(AT should be happy, no finger in the trigger. Although only thing in it at the moment are snap caps)

Super easy to break down, probably one of the easiest pistols I've ever broken down. A lot of them you have to hold the slide back in a certain spot, but this you just lock it back, flip the lever, slowly slide it off, voila.

Pistol is a Sig p226 SCT, which means it came with 4 20rd mags, fiber optic night sight, front serrations, and that thinner trigger.

Sigs are nice pieces. When you clean it before firing, look out for any funny metallic looking grease, and leave it alone if you see it - some manufacturers put it in there to help certain parts wear in properly. Glocks do, I can't remember if Sigs do or not.

Will do. Some of the other sigs in the shop came like they dunked the gun in a barrel of grease, but this one isn't really too bad.

I do like sigs, that is a damn fine zombie killer you have there!
I just recently became proficient w/ my .40 S&W sigma. it is very difficult w/ the trigger pull but I can hit a 5x5 metallic target 50yards away... (EDIT, 40 yards , I can hit the metallic chicken hear w/ just regular sights http://www.nrawc.org/hunter_pistol_silhouette.html and no , it's not the size of a chicken, its the size of a HTC EVO 4g)

(well, 1 out of 10 shots I can hit it lol)

These "glock style" guns are very very accurate

My advice, buy a variety of ammo (def get some home defense and road defense style ammo you prefer) but get a variety of range rounds. I like winchester white box that can be found anywhere (Wally world, etc.) but you will probably need to make sure you don't by TONS of it before you actually shoot some, sometimes guns are picky

Good choice for a first pistol. Lots of people I know have the sigs but I have yet to add one to the collection.

Can't say I like the extended mags that thing has though, freakin ugly bumpers lol.

Mizzou has good advice as well. Walmart sells winchester white box and federal, and sometimes remington as well. I'd pick up a box or two of each and feed em through the gun to see if it's picky. You won't be able to tell for sure until the breakin period is up, but it'll give you a good idea.

Save your brass! If you end up reloading in the future, you're good to go, and if not, you can sell it as scrap for a pretty good amount or to someone who does reload.

I'd stay away from hollowpoints during the breakin. Not only will they be expensive, but they may not feed well until the gun settles down a bit. When you do start looking at hollows, go off of advice of your fellows, but don't be afraid to get something a bit cheaper. IE all my friends use federal HST, a bit over a dollar a bullet in most cases, while the Winchester SXT costs closer to 60-70 cents a round.

Thank you for observing firearm safety. Be safe. Doesn't matter what's in it. ah heck hook don't go in there till on target and willing to destroy what it's pointed at.

I like the extended mag, you have the same problem I do - big hands.

Trade it in and buy a better camera.

Camera was a d50, just dark in my apartment so the flash messed things up.

Actually my hands are on the smaller side. This gun is just on the border of being to large. I tried to find an E2 model which is suppose to have better grips for smaller handed people but I couldn't find one in the stores. 45's tend to be just too big for my hands, at least in full size.

I'm not a huge fan of the extended mags either, and I prefer the look of the flush fit mags. However the normal 'base' 226 came with one mag, and just buying 2 more mags would have pushed it over what I paid for this one. I figure I will either buy some normal 15 round ones or trade a couple extended for normal ones. If I ever carry it I'd definitely have to get the 15's as the 20's stick out too far.

Just buy one 15 rounder, and carry one or more of the extended ones for backup. You can have the flush fitting mag for concealment, and if (god forbid) you're deep enough in it that you need to reload, you'll have the extra rounds. My carry piece is a Glock 23, but I carry Glock 22 mags as spares for that reason.

anyone know what kind of stuff would exclude you from being able to buy a handgun?

should probably cover it for you. Looks to be a lot more annoying than here, if that link has the right info. In GA they just make sure you aren't a felon, mental, illegal, etc. They run a quick background check on you and if it checks out then your out the door. I could have gotten in and out within 30 minutes, but they had a nice store so I had to look around for awhile. ^_^

Depends on your state.

oh right...sorry. I'm in MI.

The only thing I am concerned with is that I do have a criminal record. Nothing violent, no drug convictions on there...just a decent number of misdemeanors.

No felony. No mental illness. No domestic violence. No drug charges. And you should be good.

Still depends on state though.

Nice. Not familiar with the SCT but it sounds kind of like the Sig P226 Blackwater. The Blackwater had 5 20 round mags and I thought sure they fit flush (which is weird considering a regular P226 mag has 15 rounds so how do they fit so many more?) but perhaps they do extend out just like yours. Not that it really matters, and if you were trying to conceal that large beast, just use 15 rounders.

I'd like a Sig but man they just cost too much. Plus I'd have to handle one to make sure the grip isn't too large. The E2 models might be better for me. The FNP series looks like a nice alternative to a Sig.
