I could find a lot more guns to spend $1880 on than that thing...

Ahhh but the OP did say he was thinking about the Ruger SR 556 which lists for 2K. The RFB is the first true ambidextrous Bull-pup design and it's chamber in 7.62 NATO, (.308). Uses ready available FAL magazines and should be effective out to 500 yards. The reviews on it are great, there seems to no problem with the forward ejecting system (first of it's kind which is what make it ambidextrous). Given the OP said he was looking for a high powered rifle and his list of weapons he owns it fits right in with his tastes in firearms.

Yea, it's a cool rifle, but I'm not a fan of bull-pup designs. I've got all the time in the world to decide, so I figure I'll go hit a few gun shows and see what hits my fancy.

A m1 garand could be a good choice as well. I almost bought a mosin a few weeks back, but I couldn't find any with decent rifling.

It's a neat little gun, 20 rounds per mag is neat, but really if I need that many bullets I'm doing something wrong. I'd rather have 6 or 7 nice .40 or .45 rounds.

Would be cool to have just to have however. I wonder how ammo costs are for one.

I just realized I own a ruger mark III... tells ya how much I shoot my .22

Any advice on getting a mosin? I've been thinking about grabbing one this summer, but don't know a whole lot about them other than how cheap they are. Most of the websites I see that offer them have "grades" such as impact guns (http://www.impactguns.com/store/mosin_nagant_rifles.html).

If you are looking in person, just the quality of the wood, make sure all the serial numbers match, and check the crown and make sure there is still some rifling there.

If all that works out, it's good.

If you want .45 then either FNP-45 or a Beretta 90-TWO in .45 are nice.

Just remember, don't put your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to destroy what is in front of the barrel

Fixed that for you. I'm not sure why people say destroy...it is painfully obvious that pretty much any handgun is a leathal weapon. It most certainly is not a bazooka though nor is it capable of completely destroying anything other than medium sized ceramic or glass objects.

Because it costs $1/bullet to shoot it? I couldn't see ever buying that gun unless I was going to use it for hunting.
Thats like an Escalade owner complaining about the cost of gasoline.
If you can afford the rig, you can easily afford to fuel it.

My suggestion was going to be a Ruger Mark 3, but he already has one.

I bought a Mosin Nagant 91/30 from J&G sales awhile back. Not the prettiest rifle you'll see but not the worst either. I think I ended up paying about $120 for it. It was I think $80 for the rifle, did a $10 hand select, and then it was $30 for shipping. I have a C&R FFL so I could have it directly shipped to my house. Came with a bayonet, sling, pouch, and a oil bottle.

Enfields are nice rifles too. I have a No. 1 Mark 3. I'd like to get some of the other models as well eventually.

I would get something like a Winchester Model 70 or a 1911.

You are right... you are missing a nice rifle and a .45 pistol.

Consider a nice bolt-action in .308. Savage makes some sweet rifles such as the FP110 police special with a bull barrel.

I'm leaning to the mosin-nagant for the ammo prices, though J&G is selling enfields for just a bit more than the mosins. The 303 british round is much more expensive, though.

I've narrowed it down.
M1 Garand, SA 1911, or a SIG 556.
What kind of Garand or 1911?

You can get a brand new WWII reproduction Springfield 1911 for like $550.
Any decent Garand is $1000+.
Sig 556 is badass, but it's over $1400!

Edit: Oh, I see that you were looking at the SA Micro 1911. Personally, that thing is too weird for me. Especially for $1200.

I was looking at the M1 Garand, Springfield Special from thecmp.org. All new wood, barrel, etc for under a grand (I meet their requirements).

For the 1911, either a loaded or the micro. I'm leaning to the micro. I would like to carry it.

SIG has a $300.00 rebate right now on 556 rifles, so it's still in the running.

I'm about 99.9% sure on the m1. The question now is service grade or special grade.... It's a $300.00 question.
