I've saved up some coin and i'm looking to buy a new firearm.

I'm on the fence between yet another big scary black rifle, or something more classic.

For a long time now I've wanted a high end .45 pistol. Something I could carry, but something beautiful. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a M1 or another AR-15 (maybe one of those new ruger AR's).

Any suggestions?

I'm taking a more seriously look at the Springfield micro 1911 and the kimber ultra carry. I've also considered a colt lightweight commander. While I'm favoring a 1911 at this point, it doesn't have to be one. But if I go pistol, I want a .45

Currently I own the following firearms:

Walther PPS 9mm
Walther P99 QA .40
Walther PPk .380
Springfield XD 9mm (service)
S&W 686+ .357
A custom built AR-15
A cheapo WASR-10 (ak-47)
Ruger LCP .380
Ruger Mark III .22

So I think what I'm missing might be a nice high powered rifle or a .45

My friend has a kimber that he daily carries and he loves it. Its small and only holds I believe 7+1 which he sees as a downfall. His other carry (I can't remember what it is right now, also built on the 1911) has a double stack so 13+1 I believe, and he also loves that gun.

Edit: It's the Para Ordnance.

Yea the ammo limit isn't a big deal to me. I don't believe that if I need a gun for self defense I'll be in a firefight.

Currently I carry my walther PPS most of the time. It's 9mm and 7+1. I don't carry a backup mag either. In the winter I carry my Walther P99 which is .40 and 12+1. I really wish I would have gotten the compact version of the P99 because it tends to poke out my back a little too much. I figure a 1911 style is single stack and should print similar to my PPS, which basically means invisible with a IWB holster. Plus, being .45 I know it will pack a punch if I need it.

Did anyone see YAGT and think "Yet Another Girl Thread", then see the title "Buying A New Firearm" and think he was going to shoot the girl?

Lol @ me

You might want to go try out one of the kimbers. The compact is a 3" barrel and he has no problem concealing. Hearing him talk about that gun is like hearing someone talk about their girlfriend. Haha.

I've heard mixed reviews about the Kimbers feeding reliably. Personally, I'd get a Wilson Combat. Man, they make some sweet guns.

you have nothing that shoots a real cartridge.

Step up to a 30.06, 7mag, 300 mag etc. None of that plinky shot...

I probably wouldn't carry a 1911 in anything shorter than an officer's frame. Here is a good article and discussion on sigforum with Bruce Grey. There is an sigforum link at the end of the article.

From your collection, it looks like you're missing a good 12ga or 308. That would depend on what you like doing and the facilities you have available though. What kind of ar is that? If it is carbine style, you can maybe get into 3gun with the addition of a 12ga. 308 will get you into 1000 yard territory.

Again, depending on your ar since I've had a friend go out to 900 with a larue stealth and some 75gr hornady tap. He couldn't do much when we moved back another 100 though compared to my savage 10fp.

I currently carry a kahr pm9 and wouldn't mind replacing it with the springfield emp.

I have a Series 80 Colt Officer's model I bought new back in 1992. Although it had some shortcomings in its original design, a couple hundred dollars and a couple weeks at King's Gun Works cured it of those issues. It is bright stainless with checkered rosewood grips. Only thing I'd like to do to it now is have the front strap checkered, it could probably use a new set of Trijicon sights too as the ones on there are probably fairly ineffective in the dark now.

Thanks for the input guys. I should also point out what I don't want.

I don't want another black plastic handgun. I have enough of those.

How about something with a little history? The last time I was at a gun show they had some WWII 1911s for sale. I think they were around $2-4k.

Springfield EMP 1911 is one beautiful gun. And it carries well. Or you could just get a Rugger .380 pocket pistol. Just saying.

I already have the ruger lcp. It doesn't get much smaller then that. I'm leaning to either a 45 or 308.

Mossberg 500
Mosin-Nagant
M1 Garand

The bottom two have quite a bit of history behind them; I'd like to own both some day.

Just the thing your looking for, yes it's made by Kel-tec but check it out. http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/rfb.htm Saving my penny's up for this one.

I've shot one, and it's not bad. Not my favorite rifle though. Main annoyance were the controls were kinda oddly placed, so you have to actively remember when using it. Kinda neat to see the casings come out the front though.

Heavy gun too, but at least most of the weight is in the rear so that makes it easier.

Main complaint by the guy that owns it was a lack of places to mount things like a forward grip. The plastic grip doesn't have a way to attach a rail, and it also gets hot after a session at the range. I think we put about 100 rounds through it(maybe less, can't remember exactly), and at the end you didn't really want to hold onto it too much.
