Thinking of
.44 revolver *S&W or Ruger Blackhawk*
mossberg 500/remington 870
.357 small frame revolver

whacha think? I am a frequent CCW and backpacker...which makes me lean towards the .357/.44....but I feel empty without a 12gauge

A shotgun is an almost must have firearm.

For backpacking, also consider a Glock 20. You can even get .40 and .357 Sig conversion barrels for it.

I own 17 firearms, all of which have been locked up at a friends while I was in Chicago for 2 years. I'll be driving to Az in a few weeks and transporting a few of my handguns. The plan is to transport a few rifles back with me each time I fly out.

hmmmm.... ruger blackhawk .41 magnum?

If you want to spend a bucketload of money on ammo, go ahead and get a .41Mag. I have 4 of them and I have to handload to afford to shoot them.

TBH, the 'wow' factor of a .41/.44/.45/.500/et al wears off pretty quickly, unless you are just a range poser or you actually use them for a purpose. Just poking holes in paper or ventilating beer cans... I'd pick a .38/.357.

'Badass' to me is function over form... but that's me.

Speaking of .41's... I just picked up my latest Friday night... a 6" Dan Wesson .41Mag. I've been looking for one of these for about 20 years. It's a big pistol, that's for sure, bigger than a S&W N-frame.

You definitely need a shotgun.
Just pick out a style.

Tactical pump with pistol grip (Mossberg)? $350
Traditional hunting (Browning, belgium)? $800
Over-Under for skeet/trap (Beretta 686)? $1800

Those $350 Mossberg pistol grip guns are fun to shoot from the hip.

Ah woops...I was thinking it was cheaper. I admit, I don't own a .45. How about the .410?

Just checked ammoseek.com. The good 45 colt ammo is about $35-40+ a box.
You can get reloaded ammo and some of the crappier factory ammo for about $30 a box.

shotgun ammo is usually cheaper. Ammoseek lists .410 for $7-10 per 25 rd. box of target loads.

Self defense ammo in any caliber is usually much more expensive per round and you usually get much less ammo per box as well.

Looks like .410 personal defense ammo starts around $11 for a box of 20.

yeaah Shotgun would be nice and a bit cheaper. Will have to do some playing around today at the gun store, but I don't want to have to fight the apocalyptic election day loonies lol

The Judge blows. In your situation, I'd say a shotgun. I picked up a Mossberg for a great price at Walmart.

Today might be a good day to go to the gun store. Most people will be voting or watching election results.

If Obama wins, the guns stores will be packed, and lots of stuff will be sold out for the next few months.

Yep. With the ridiculousness that happened last election, you would think the NRA would be out canvassing for Obama this year.....

I thought YAGT meant "Yet Another Girl Thread", making "Filling the void" mean something completely different.
