Go for it. I bought a used Marlin Model 60 from 1990 and it's served me beautifully. Great for stress relief. Ammo's so cheap you can rapid fire it and not feel guilty, even if you don't hit shit. Would almost never do that with any other larger caliber.

Marlin 60's are fun times. My favorite plinker.

Took it out to the range on Saturday and put 60 rounds through it. It's been about 2 years since I last shot so I needed a clip @ 50yrds to get back into things. After that I backed it up to 75 and then 100 and shot using irons. Not to bad all things considered. Forgot my gloves which really ended up screwing me over since I couldn't feel my hands after the 6th shot of the clip (10rnd).

All in all a great day, and a great purchase.

Now...what handgun do I get? The rifle/pistol club up here just built a brand new 25/50yd indoor range.

Damn, thats like the last rifle that I really really wanna own. That's the one downfall of living in the city of Chicago, can't play with my babies.

When I say "last", I mean that I already own everything else that I really want.

I figured that I might as well go for it since it's my first.

FN Five-Seven

Ooooh, good choice, looks a little pricy though, and is 5.7 ammo cheap enough to allow for regular range use?

EDIT: Negative, not in the budget (<$600, intended use is range. Have Mossberg 500 12ga for HD. Can't conceal carry since I work on military bases)

It is pricey....but ammo is surprisingly not too bad considering there's only 2 guns (the Five-Seven and the PS90) chambered for it, locally it's even a little cheaper than .45 at the moment...and they make 30rd mags for it

EDIT: There's also a special upper you can buy for AR-15's designed for the 5.7mm round, so technically there's 3 guns that can shoot it

Nothing wrong with a Glock 17 or 19 for range use. 9MM is cheap enough and Glocks can usually be found for under $500

I'm not a big fan of the FiveSeven or the ammo it shoots.

A 1911 would go well with the M1A. Beautiful rifle you've got there, by the way

Now...what handgun do I get? The rifle/pistol club up here just built a brand new 25/50yd indoor range.

Once again, a .22 is a must. Ruger is the most popular .22 pistol.

Now after that what do you want it for? Target shooting, hunting, home defense, or concealed carry?

I think my next handgun is going to be a Glock 20. 10mm is awesome. The light loads are about the same as a .40, which I already have. The full power load however are more powerful than a .357 magnum. Makes me wish I had gotten a 10mm instead of my .40.

The only downside to the 10mm is the ammo is less common and consequently more expensive. Of course since the diameter is the same, you can get a .40 conversion barrel for your 10mm and just shoot .40 when you want to save money. Or you could reload.

So I've been thinking about getting the Glock 20. It has a 4.6" barrel I was thinking of adding a 6" which gives your bullets an extra 100 foot pounds of energy. That would be a lot better than a .357, and all the advantages of a semi-automatic. So if I ever go pistol hunting that's what I'm getting.
