YAGT: GF just told me that we are on a break

2. she is in shanghai doing an internship.
3. asked her if she would be faithful to me while on our break for another month

4. she said she'll do her best
5. when i tried to break up with her..she begged me to stay
6. she must be crazy!

I am 26 and she is 21 I work full time at Northrop Grumman and she has 1 year of school left in a five year program at syracuse university. We have been together for 3 years.

Since oyu gave almost no detail on ages, stage in life, living situations etc, I can only have a vague guess.
If she's in Shanghai to do an internships I would assume she's having a vastly different life experience to anything she's gone through before, and hence she's suddenly found she doesn't know where she is in life, and maybe isn't happy with what she's doing, so she wants to re evaluate everything and work out where she's heading.

She wants to be on a "break", because she's hoping that you will screw someone and then she can dump you. This way she can use that as her excuse, rather than that she is getting tired of you.

she actually said that if you meet someone its ok, but she said that she knew that if she wanted to come back to me and i was not there it was her loss

I find it odd that she said that, in a way. It doesn't seem like something someone in a 3 year relationship would say. Especially since the break is only for a month. What does she expect you to do, meet a girl and fall for her in less than a month, while having your relationship in the back of your mind. Sounds more like encouragment than just understanding.

Oh, and I love how it was her decision to be on break. Rather than trying to talk things over with you she just decided that you guys were taking a break. What a great girl!

IMO She is actively looking for someone she thinks is better than you but she doesn't have a lot of confidence that will happen so she's attempting to secure you as a backup (ie tell her after about a week that she had a fantastic idea and it's really been positive for you and you've had the courage to explore new options you didn't think to do before -- you'll see she wants to get off that break ASAP)

Maybe not understanding her to the extent of having to pose this question on a public forum--and in spite of being with her for *gasp* 3 years. Then again, time flies, so I guess 3 years could pass by, seem like much in numbers but insignificant in knowing someone. :/
