i miss my ex so much...

yesterday, she called me crying because she's got an extreme toothache and they sent her home from work because she was so bad. she DID need just one root canal... that was 5 months ago. now she needs five.

her insurance won't cover her root canals until next month.

i called everyone on my phone list and asked if they had any painkillers for her... i drove a half hour out of town to meet up with my friends who had some extra painkillers from when their son broke his arm. they also had some toothache gum and some orastat (topical analgesic that, apparently, works better than oragel or anything else current on the shelf.

i miss her so much...

it seems like she only calls me whenever she needs something from me and, of course, like a giant pussy, i try and lasso her the moon just to make her smile...

That's rough man. It sounds like she either considers you two to be friends or is using you, either way, I would try to get over her. I find that breaking off contact for a while really helps. Out of sight, out of mind. My $.02

That's a tough spot. Even if you weren't roped in because you still miss her, it would be tough. Even if it was a friend instead of the ex, it would still be a tough spot to be in.

Incidentally, in the US, what do you do if you have a dental emergency but have no money to pay? For regular medical care, you would go to the ER if it was something serious, but for dental care, is there anything you can do short of drinking yourself into oblivion?

For 5? root canals, I think the cost would be prohibitively expensive. I've never had one, but I know fillings usually run at least 250$ per tooth. And a root canal is a more complicated procedure...

Sorry man but it has to be said: you gotta stop talking to her. She's being very cruel by keeping you around. Everyone needs their space after a tough breakup, and I've seen enough posts of yours about the subject that I know you're not distancing yourself enough. After my own hard breakup someone gave me some advice that I'll never forget: "people break up for a reason". No matter how much you miss her or miss what you had, you gave it your best shot and it didn't work. It's going to be hard but the best thing for you to do would be to stop being her rock. She made her choice to break up with you and that includes breaking from the emotional support she's used to you giving her.
