So I disassembled my Girsan brand 1911 all the way. I took pictures of everything and uploaded them into a winrar file for everyone to look at.

Girsan 1911 Disassembly Pics.rar - Speedy Share - upload your files here

Hope that upload page works. I also put a few pics on photobuck to be used to see in this thread. The fit and finish to me looks darn nice on the gun. I have been absolutely impressed with the gun. I have though changed out the original wood grips as well as the front sight. I did have a few minor gripes with the gun. I didn't like the brown wood grips as a color aesthetically so I replaced those. I didn't like the front sight post which was a really tall plain black blade. The front sight was causing me to aim too low when shooting. The last bit I don't like is the safety switch. I'm not sure if it shows up in the pictures, but the "point" of the safety switch by the beaver tail wasn't beveled down. Which means when I go to change the safety while holding the firearm it digs a bit into the webbing of my thumb. Not enough to cut me, but enough to cause a little pinch. Still for $500 those are all minor fixes I can deal with and cheap.

Here's a family pic of my handguns minus my SR22 which is at ruger being fixed.

Here are some solo pics of the Girsan.

Original wood grips

And here are some disassembly pictures.

Let me know what you guys think.

I also added the Williams fire sights to the PT111 Mil Pro. Here are the pics of that.

I never heard of Girsan. It looked like a Detonics scoremaster to me.

It's a Bud's Gun Shop exclusive right now that I know of. Damn fine gun from my experience thus far.

Now I will say I actually had issues with my sig p238's today. Actually it wasn't the gun but this Armscor ammo I bought. Worst ammo I've used in the gun so far. I've used lawman, monarch, blazer, and remington thus far. Friday I got the order I placed a month ago for 20 boxes at $13 a box. DAMN good box for 380 acp brass. Too good to be true though. Thus far I've put about 600 rounds in my p238 and my girl has put about 100 rounds in hers. I brought 100 rounds for each gun to go through today. The ammo was horrible. It was underpowered and was having more than a few primers not firing when struck. I had about 15 bullets I couldn't fire at all in either gun. The accuracy was all over the place. Failure to eject or feed was bad. I had 1 bullet that wouldn't even fit in the barrel. Was WAYYYYYY too big for it. I was like WTF? The dimensions were so far off on it, I can't even explain it. Took me awhile to figure out why that one wasnt' feeding. I spent more time dealing with problems from that ammo that actually shooting. Fucking annoying. Still got 16 boxes of this junk left. Would anyone think it bad of me if I traded it out for another box of another caliber???

Anyhow, stay AWAY from armscor ammo. Absolute junk.

While there is a massive ammo shortage, Lake City Army Ammunition Plant which is owned by the government and makes ammo for the military is laying off workers. http://www.kansascity.com/2013/03/06/4103593/lake-city-employees-offered-voluntary.html

While our government would rather lose money and lay off workers before selling ammo to the peasants, even the police and some other government agencies are feeling the effects of the ammo shortage.

I did what the video showed. ADDED ultra high grade glow paint.

15dollars for paint. The video shows exactly what I did since I made it yesterday.

Yeah, I just finished watching the video. It absolutely looked great.. Now I'm tempted to try it..

Learning guns - Youtube

I would start by figuring out what SIZE handgun you want. Then after you figure that out, start by searching "top sub compact hand guns" or "top full sized hand guns" etc.

Good luck!

I think your first gun should be a Ruger Mark III.

Those are nice for target shooting, although disassembly isn't the easiest. If it's practice for self defense shooting, a Ruger SR22 might be a better choice. I do agree that a .22 is a good starting choice, since it helps someone learn to shoot without developing a flinch.

Eh, when I first learned to shoot over the course of an hour I went through this progression:

.22 Marlin Rifle
.38 revolver
.45 semi-auto
.357 mag revolver

If you're scared to shoot a gun then you shouldn't be shooting. I would choose a .22 just for cheap ammo, when you find it. But there's no reason you can't learn/practice with something bigger.

Decided I'm finally gonna order a M1 Garand. I was going to do it several years ago but never ended up doing so. I'd order the mofo ASAP but since the delivery time can be a month or more (according to the CMP website), I guess I should wait until my lease is up and I move in May, as I'd hate having the rifle shipped to my old address if it takes too much longer than a month. Joined the Garand Collector's Association so I just need to scan my birth certificate and CCL Certificate/license. :awe:

There's no reason you can't, but some people might be scared off from a high-recoil firearm, and/or develop a flinch from one. I personally wouldn't limit someone to .22LR as a first gun, but unless they want it solely for home defense (in which case I'd suggest 9mm) I'd still suggest .22LR as a first pistol or rifle.

Agreed. I need to pick up a Buckmark Camper 5.5 bull barrel with a 4x scope and like 10,000rds of CCI stingers. And a 10/22 with a dozen BX-25s.

I have like 1-2 of every well known "assault" rifle in all the 5.56/7.62x39/7.62x51 calibers but not a single .22.

At least it will be fun buying like 5 guns + ammo all at one time for the same price as I normally spend on something like a single AR/AK/M1A/PTR/etc.

This is exactly what I did - I ended up with a flinch. I'm right handed and still have a slight tendency to shoot to the lower left. A friend put an empty round in the gun without me knowing (snap cap) and watched me flinch. He made me then shoot lefty and I was dead on. Felt awkward as hell, but I was in the center circle every shot.

When I take people to the range, unless they have fired before they start with a rental .22, then move to my 1911, then to the magnum rounds. When they fire a new gun, it's single round in the chamber, empty magazine/cylinder otherwise. It's annoying to do, but it prevents really awful situations (like the accidental death at wades a few years back.)

has nothing to do with being scared. smaller caliber allows you to develop the good habits and proper form when shooting.
