Decided I'm finally gonna order a M1 Garand. I was going to do it several years ago but never ended up doing so. I'd order the mofo ASAP but since the delivery time can be a month or more (according to the CMP website), I guess I should wait until my lease is up and I move in May, as I'd hate having the rifle shipped to my old address if it takes too much longer than a month. Joined the Garand Collector's Association so I just need to scan my birth certificate and CCL Certificate/license. :awe:

Nice i plan to do the same in another week or two. Just have to decide if i want 1 or 2 haha.

If someone is flinching bad, it's probably due to a shitty creepy trigger. With a 3 lb trigger that breaks like glass with no take up, you can't flinch because there's no anticipation. It always surprises you. My 700 long action based custom .300 Win mag is like that. It might knock you on your ass, but you never see it coming even after you KNOW it will.

I'll be beaten up for this.

Yang the trigger like you mean it. Finger tip only and you won't have time to flinch. Hold on, and freaking fire. It's not going to hurt you.

Once I took that approach and didn't over analyze everything I got amazingly better.

Personally I find that learning to rapid fire a bit from the onset was the better way to learn. Instead of trying to squeeze off 1 shot every few seconds and letting the tension build per shot tends to make people over think everything. Just frikking shoot and you'll get much better.

Shooting 3 or 4 shots in a rapid way allows you to tune out everything else going on around you.

Anyways, since this deal has to do with tactical bags with conceal carry capabilities, I thought I'd give you all a pointer, to my thread over in Hot Deals.

Nice long day at the range.

Slept on my right arm last night wrong so the recoil actually bothered me today. Normally I can shoot for hours without noticing the recoil from my handguns. Not today. Had to actually quit early too. I shot my 1911, the PT92, and my newly returned SR22. Everything shot perfectly except the 1 magazine problem I am having with the last shot of 1 magazine I bought for the 1911. Was able to fix the Chip McCormick shooting stars I bought and so they have no problem. The Kimber mag was now having problems with random failures. No clue about that since it was running fine. For 1911 magazines I have a nighthawk, 3 chips, 1 act mag, 1 mecgar, 1 promag, 1 wilson combat, and 1 kimber. The kimber is the only one giving me a problem with either FTEs or FTFs. The promag sometimes doesn't lock the slide back on the last shot, but it doesn't malfunction at least. Strange how differently all the different 1911 brands work with various 1911 guns.

The PT92 is a beaut of a gun. Actually I think I'll go so far as to call it my complete favorite handgun to shoot. Accurate, low recoil, reliable, and just smooth as butter. I have several after market mags now for it as well and they all work perfectly.

The SR22 finally shoots straight! Got it back from Ruger this week and so I put it through the paces today. Went through 300 rounds on it with 1 failure to extract. Was using remington golden bullets. However, there are some things about the SR22 I don't like that much now that I've shot it a bit. First is the trigger. It's garbage. Very long reset, very long uptake even in single action mode, and just sloppy/mushy. Really affects the accuracy of the gun with how bad the trigger is. I think I might have to look into what I can do to change it. Even with the bad trigger, it was still easy enough to shoot and decently accurate.

The other problem is the hammer. Since the gun has no beaver tail for safety, the hammer will slam down on the top of your hand. You won't notice it much, but when you start doing 300+ rounds in an hour, you'll develop a nice bruise there. Not sure what I can do to fix that.

If I had to rate my handguns for my favorites currently, I would have to put them in this order.

1) Taurus PT92 AF
2) Sig Sauer P238
3) Girsan 1911 - PT111 mil pro (tied)
4) Ruger SR22

Really though I do like them all very much. I just need to fix the various magazine problems with the random 1911 magazines, and do something about the SR22's trigger/hammer annoyances.

Despite the shortcomings, I find the SR22 to be a great little plinker. The manual safety + decocker combo makes it great for training those that aren't used to shooting, and the magazines are much easier to load than most other 22s I've tried. The weight and ergos are all around good, too.

Well, I haven't posted to this thread in a while. A few weeks ago I picked up my first revolver, a Ruger Single Six convertible, along with a Henry lever action .22.

Last weekend a group of work buddies went on an all day range session. We went through about $300 worth of ammo (using pre-insanity prices) totaling ~2500 rounds. Good times were had!

Also picked up a 1931 hex receiver Mosin Nagant and 4 spam cans of ammo. Spent this afternoon cleaning the cosmoline off of it and put a few rounds through the tube. Fun gun.

Nice! I got the ammo for a Mosin but havent gotten one yet. Been waiting for my C&R license to come in since local store dont have any or have been wanting inflated prices (such as 200 bucks) for one. Ill probably pick up a hex one and a carbine model for fun

Speaking of dirty...

All clean now, but will probably have to wait until next weekend to put rounds through it.

Hooray cosmoline.

I had a sad when I was cleaning up mine yesterday. A piece cracked off of the end of the stock just below the muzzle. Gonna try to glue it, but I'm not very confident that will hold given all the cosmoline still in the wood. Oh well. I've already been looking at replacement stocks and trying to figure out how to justify buying a stock that costs almost as much as the rifle. :whiste:

BTW, I'd be sure to give your barrel a very thorough cleaning. I poured boiling water down mine to get the cosmoline out, follow by a couple patches with CLP that seemed to come out clean. When cleaning it after shooting though, I put some windex and hoppes' through the barrel which apparently started breaking up crud that must date back to ww2. I probably put 15 patches down the barrel that were coming out almost solid black before I gave up on it for the night.

Nice, after working on my brothers Mosin I am even more of a fan than I was before. I would love to get a hex receiver one.
