Yeah I still think they should be less than that considering the work you need to do to finish it...but I suppose the people most interested in them right now are more concerned with the "no paperwork" part than saving any money on them:ninja:Prices have been coming down on 80%'s pretty quick I think. They would be going out of stock at $200 a month ago, but I see them at 150 now reliably from a store and 130 from someone trying to sell it privately.
I have a new scope and rail coming for my Marlin 1895. tired of the scope that is on it trying to destroy my face when I shoot the heavy handloads, so I am making it into a scout rifle.
Found a set of the XS scout rail with ghost ring sights for the Marlin on ebay, and I ordered a Burris 2.75x scout scope with some QD rings for it off of amazon today. Should make for a much nicer shooting rifle, hoping to take it on a hog hunt this summer.
Now I need to sell some scopes on craigslist. Put up an ad for my new in box zeiss conquest, and an old tasco world class 2-7 I have lying around, but so far no takers.
Youll have to tell me how you like the new scope setup on that marlin 1895. Havent gotten to shoot mine yet so ill stick to the stock sights (for now) and stock trigger (plan to get the simple upgrade trigger ive heard great things about)
Since im sure you reload with it, what powder ya pick for it. Seems to be a huge variance on what powder people use for the 45-70.
On another note, finally got my C&R license! Only took 5 weeks which isnt bad at all. And now to spend money and buy more guns! Well just a mosin (or two) and the cmp garand
I will post some of my pet loads when I get home this evening, but yes, I do reload for it.
When I do reloads for it I tend to make them nuclear hot though. The 1895 action can handle it just fine though. Always more fun when there is a sore shoulder, just not fun when the scope tries to murder my eye socket.
Never heard of 80% lowers but that is kinda cool. I'd be down but I have no means to complete the lower.

So here it is... pics and all.
Looking forward to trying it out this weekend
Dude that looks nice, what is that?
Okay, just got back from the range again. Last night I took the time to break down my Canik (pronouced Chanique) 55 Shark also known as model T-120 as imported by Tristar Arms.
First off, it bit me. Well, sort of. I went to go take the slide off and it was stuck. I lined up the notches, managed to get the slide stop out, and then tried to push the slide off the front of the frame. I couldn't do it at first. Not sure what was hung up. I was watching a youtube video of how to do it and for them it slid right on off. The slide would go back and forth easy enough, just wouldn't come off the front.
So I braced it and put both of my thumbs on the back of the slide to push it forward with more strength. That did it! Unfortunately my right thumb ran into the top of the rail and the corner of it poked me good enough to draw blood. Draw thing really is a shark!
Anyhow, cleaned it up and tried to determine why the slide was having problems. Couldn't see anything and after that it went on and off easy peasy lemon squeazy.
Comparing the Canik clone version to online pictures I found of both the Jericho 941 and other CZ 75B models, mine looked just as good inside completely disassembled as anything that an official CZ 75b would be done as. Everything was tight, machined well, and looked darn good.
So I hit up the range today with both my Turkish guns. The Girsan 1911 and this Canik. Put another 200 rounds through the Girsan. Fired flawless as ever with good groups. Still really love the gun. It only has a problem with 2 magazines I bought. The 1911 promag. The follower on that mag is plastic and doesn't "flare" out at the spot my other mags flare out. As such it never catches the slide stop and doesn't lock it back. It feeds just fine, but won't ever lock back the slide. A bit annoying, but more a magazine design problems than anything. Although I might be able to find a different slide stop that works with the magazine. However, I have a kimber pro 1911 magazine that is just the opposite. It flares out TOO far. Always screws up the last shot with a failure to eject. The Chip McCormicks, Nighthawks, ACT, and Wilson Combat mags I have run without any problems. I heard this is a common issue with 1911's from the most expensive to the least. Finding the right magazines to use is something a 1911 owner has to take into account. Still I have now about 1600 or so rounds through it. With the only problems those that I noted and I know they are magazine related problems.
The Canik? Well I put 400 with out a single hiccup. If anything the accuracy is even BETTER on it than any other handgun. That's saying quite a bit. I was at the Bass Pro range here and was in the "rifle" lane. It goes out to 40 yards or so. I put the target at max range and was still nailing center every shot. The trigger on it is SWEET! At least in single action mode. Now double action mode on this gun. UGH.... Horrible, sucky, crappy, and makes me want to puke bad. I just won't ever fire the gun in double action again. Easily the worst trigger pull I've ever tried when I fire it in double action. Not sure why the gun is like that. Awesome trigger in single action, and one of the worst if used as double action.
Anyhow, I'm very impressed with this little gem. Academy sells the "blued" version for $350. Might think about picking up another after my experience with this one.
I've heard from multiple places around the 'net to avoid Promag like the devil.
CZ 75s and the like are awesomely ergonomic, stupidly accurate (at least in my experiences), and great bargains. The triggers do leave a bit to be desired - in double action mode, my finger just barely reaches far enough to pull the P-01 trigger comfortably. The heavy DA trigger is great in terms of safety, however, and it's only a consideration for the first shot. Either cock the hammer, or consider it a great trigger control lesson each time you pop the mag in.
I got my xs lever rail installed on my 45-70 this evening, and it looks great. Just waiting on the scope and rings to arrive on Monday.

Had a fun time on the weekend!
Started out with Clays - ended up going through 3 boxes of clays between 4 of us.
Had a Benelli Nova which I picked up for the weekend.
Remmington 870
Pardner single shot break action
Then broke out the 22's for some fun plinking at the targets setup and finnaly switched to the surplus rifles. We had a Mauser in 8mm, and my Russian SKS out for its maiden voyage.
What a blast! Anyone else out this weekend?
----
Also I have a question! - Does anyone have experience with the surplus Mosin - Nagants?
looks nice. Watched a video and sounds like its pretty easy to install?
What made you go for the long rail vs something like the Game Reaper scope mount?
Guys- where have you been purchasing your ammo from?
