Bought myself an AK47 today. I think I've officially purchased all the firearms that I can afford for a while.

I'm considering buying one from

http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/11278/Moisin-Nagant-M9130-Sniper-762x54R-with-Scope.aspx

and I'm wondering if there are any specific questions I should ask them. They are a very reputable shop around here but I will be purchasing it "online" so I won't see mine till it arrives at my house.

Thoughts?

Well not much you can do when buying online. They tell you up front they are not matching serial numbers so thats out. Only real thing you could ask is what sort of condition they are in. Any rust? Stock conditions (ie dings, scratches, gouges, ect)? Has it been counter bored? Other than that i cant really think of anything to ask.

I have seent hose sniper packages for like 550 (i think it was) at Big 5 and Cabelas before if you have a store near you and dont mind waiting for one to come in stock.

Scout scope mounted on the .45-70 -

Can't wait to get it out and sight it in now.

Looks better than i thought it would! The video of the install from the XS uys was zoomed in and made it look at lot....uglier lol. Ghost ring sights would be nice to have....hmmm decisions decisions for me lol

Anyone have feedback on Browning Hi Power gunsmiths? I'm thinking of going with Novak to get my BHP refinished and have proper sights added, but Garthwaite is also an option. They're both similar in costs - Garthwaite seems to prefer making his own parts and Novak seems to like C&S parts.

Any thoughts?

Latest hauls:

1x 420 rd can of XM855 62gr 5.56 to fill the rest of my pmags
4 x SAW "fat 50" ammo cans brand new
5 x DSA metric FAL 20 rd mags for FAL/Keltec RFB
6 x Beretta 92FS 17 rd mags
2 x more Glock 9mm 33rd mags for the Keltec/G17 (total 9 now)

I want a big bore safari gun now, thinking of something like a Model 70 in .458 Win Mag or 460 Weatherby

Just in case of rabid zombie dump trucks

Eyeballing some .348 Winchester for the Model 71 but damn $60 a box!

Rumors of a massive ammo price crash. The ruskies are going to save our ammoless asses.

http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/87138-the-coming-ammo-price-crash/

Theres been rumors for years on imported ammo coming in. Supposed to have been huge imports of AK mags, 5.45 ammo, all sorts of crap that has never happened. Its always from someone who says he knows someone who knows someone else.

That and the Russians have jack crap to do with ammo pricing. Just look at some places selling Tula for $10+ a box. Its up to retailers what they sell stuff for.

If you think the .348 ammo is expensive, then you most certainly do not want a .460 weatherby. I have one, and the best I can do most of the time is around $150 a box for the cheap stuff -

The recoil will either break you or make a man out of you though for sure. Highest recoil of any commercially produced round, ever - according to my cartridges of the world. Based on how it feels, I think that is accurate.

If you want a big thumper - I suggest .375 H&H. One of the best cartridges ever made.

Pricey but I got tired of looking and assholes at gunshows wanting $30+ and not budging. I go to gun shows to look for private deals and SAVE on tax and shipping for large items, not pay MORE to a bitch reseller than it would cost to ship them online.

Ill probably never go to a gun show ever again. Hardly any deals vs online or local shops before Dec '12, and now its just pickers flippers and resellers trying to flip 50 rd boxes of 22LR for $29. Eat shit and die.

I might have to pay tax locally but at least local shops will honor MSRP and under and not try to sell WASRs for $850 as recently as 3 days ago. Gun shows now feel like walking through a brick and mortor Craigslist or eBay, NOTHING but full time pickers and resellers anymore.

Pfft, .577 Tyrannosaur or go home!

I'd be a bit scared to shoot one, not going to lie.

I looked, seems very very uncommon. When the zombie dump trucks come I want a common big bore :awe:

Recoil doesn't scare me. Breaking bones doesn't scare me. Detatching retinas though from rifle recoil I can do without...

What are some good bolt guns to keep an eye out for? I'm looking for something for 200-500 yards or so, probably a .308, but also toying with the idea of .30-06 or .300 Win Mag.

I've been having fun with my Gunsite Scout, but I want something with a longer barrel to throw some decent glass on. This thing will probably just get a $200-300 2-7x Nikon or Leupold if I can find something with decent eye relief in that price range.

Remington 700s are an obvious choice, but I've been having trouble finding them in anything except .223 and 7mm. I know there are other good choices out there, so I want to keep my eyes peeled for a few different things to increase my chances of finding a decent deal.

Its more the price for the cal rather than absolute cost. I have no problem buying something like .338 LM but I dont like paying .338 LM prices for say .30-30 which is what the .348 prices feel like.

I'm on the fence, definitely want a Winchester Model 70 Safari gun in either .375 H&H or .458 Win Mag.

I have several 308s and 12ga but the largest rifle cal I own is .300 WM (the Model 71 .348 is my dads)

My personal fav is a Remington 700PSS in .308. There were at least 3 at a local shop just over $600, as well as the same exact gun in .223.

Savage model 10's and Remmington 700's are good choices. both can shoot subMOA out of the box.

For only 500 yards I would stick to either 308 or 30-06. Both will do just fine.

If you want one of the big bores, check out a ruger number 1 single shot as well. They can he handloaded hotter than any other rifle, and are extremely nice (I collect them, hands down my favorite rifle of all time). Mine in .375 H&H is a tackdriver, and the handloads I make for it.

I did the calculations on a 235g barnes X load I developed for Elk last year. That load at 500 yards had more energy than a 30-06 does at the muzzle.
