Thats exactly how i feel. Cool you can make some awesome shots. But its not really the shooter making them but rather the computer. I might not be the best shot in the world or anything but part of the fun of shooting for me is hitting the target myself. And now its hitting the target and making smaller groups. I dont want a rifle i just put on target and pull the trigger and dont have ot think anything about it.

this is for military use right? i don't think they really give a shit about tight groups, rather their primary focus is to kill the bad guys...

Their videos and from what I've read they are basically marketing it to everyone. Military and Leo obviously just need minute of person. But then they show hitting super small targets and other things like that

Unless I'm missing something on the Barrett system I don't think they're very comparable? The Barrett doesn't really do anything to improve your shooting, it just tells you what elevation adjustments. The Tracking Point scope gives you a perfect range to target, shows you where to point the rifle to hit the target and releases the round for you. In theory it looks essentially idiot proof other than having to manually enter wind velocity.

They're essentially the same thing though. Laser a target, get the range, dial the windage and elevation into your scope with the BORS simplifying that data to a raw distance, put the crosshairs on the target and squeeze the trigger.

This Linux or w/e rifle just does the adjusting for wind and elevation for you as well as lasing the target. It then fires for you automatically so your trigger control and breathing don't factor in as much.

They still cannot 'see' wind downrange and this is what makes long distance marksmanship a truly difficult skillset to become accomplished in.

Both systems are useless without either a shooter or a spotter who knows how to call windage. Downside to the Linux system is you have to edit in the windage calls on the fly into the system/scope because it won't fire unless the rifle crosses the firing point. With a traditional rifle you can just move left or right a bit depending on the call and squeeze the trigger.

They usually run about $200-230. Last year I picked one up at a LGS for $175 before tax.

This. A bit more than that for a take-down model, if there are any available for sale.

Most of the stores around here carry the stainless model with the A2 birdcage flash hider on the barrel, and it runs right at $229 when not on sale, and I see it advertised at $199 every so often.

Went to a new range last night with a friend and have to say, it was the nicest range I have ever seen. Place was immaculate, completely stocked with ammo, completely stocked with evil black guns (at prices similar to what you'd pay pre-panic online), etc. Wide lanes, great air circulation, simple innovations like grated floors so you're not slipping on ammo, etc.

More importantly, they have a dedicated 'electronic' targets range that is not open yet, but is ridiculously awesome. Some sort of projection of moving targets that can be anywhere from 5 - 25 yards, can be targets, zombies, different scenarios, etc. Your shot registers somehow in terms of placement, you can compete with people in the lanes next to you, pics can be sent directly to your email/facebook, etc.

The takedown, or "survival" model, with backpack, is still over $300, everywhere I've seen it.

Kentucky Gun Broker wants $330, shipped.

There's a dealer in Georgia, on GunBroker, that is asking $325, shipped, the last time I looked.

Reportedly, pre-insanity, these were going for <$300.

So, i'm sure you guys know that microstamping is now a law in CA. Any future models of hand guns are effectively banned in this state. Go freedom!

That sounds amazingly fun, and addictive.

WTF? So when the current models are sold out, you won't be able to get the new model?

Hopefully. I certainly hope the manufacturers refuse to make anything that is compatible with the law. Maybe it will get people to either move to a free state and get Californians to fight the law.

Any current model that is on the list stays there as long as the manufacturers pay their extortion fees.

It's the same with the loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect. We can't buy any 1911s that came out after ~2006, because they were not on the roster before the LCI and mag disconnect features were mandated.

It's like a whole different world in California...in a bad way.

Locally various models of 10/22 run about $100 used to $250 new.

More than that you should have lube for your butthole.

I would get whatever is cheaper, and when you inevitably want to accessorize it, get a nice laminate or wood stock, like a Boyd's, that you like and go with that.

I think the real question is blued or stainless myself, and I would go with stainless personally.

Having 2+ of every type of famous plastic black rifle you can think of, I prefer a classic wood 10/22.

I like the 10/22 compact in walnut or there is a "vendor exclusive" full length model that like the compact doesn't have the barrel band. My two fav examples of a 10/22. Add a SAW ammo can packed with loaded BX-25 mags and call it good.
