So i got a Timney Single Stage 3lb trigger for my 300blk today. Was super easy to install (not that an AR trigger is hard to install....but a drop in unit is pretty nice!) Gotta say it is a ton better than the milspec trigger! Next to no travel on the trigger (which is my preference) and a crisp, smooth 3lb pull (measured by my trigger pull gauge).

Also got a wild west trigger for my marlin 1895. Its nicer than the stock but was advertised as a 2-3lb pull but my gauge was more around 4.5-5 still. Much crisper than the stock one though so might have to do a little polishing or something.

As much as i want more fun guns to shoot, Im finding myself more and more just wanting to upgrade the ones i have with better triggers, optics, ect.

Did a search for 50 bmg and was in this thread but damn if I can find anyone that shoots one...? Like to hear more info if anyone shoots a monster like this...?

Been shooting it at around 600+ yards with cheap ammo and does pretty good but would like to know what to expect with some of the Hornady expensive stuff I have...?

Also like a recommendation on a good inexpensive spotting scope I mean damn spent a bunch on the weapon and scope plus ammo...

Would appreciate any help/advice in finding a bolt action Mauser, either a K98 or perhaps a Yugo M48. I've been looking for a while without success. Looking to add to my collection of WW2 antiques.

Thanks.

I never...ever...in my life...thought I'd see someone manage to use the terms ".50BMG" and "cheap" in the same post.

I don't have any personal experience with spotting scopes, but word on "other forums" is that Bushnell makes some of the best price to performance spotters on the market.

EDIT: Nice boomstick btw...

Thanks its a hellava conversation piece on the coffee table... Best part is the wife bought it for me and yes you read that correct (she bought it for me)...

Well "cheap & 50BMG" are not related for sure I should have said "least expensive ammo" which was about $3.08 per round but the Hornady Vmax is about $7.00 a pop...

Been looking at several of the Bushnell scopes but it seems they are all Chinese now...? But of course there are all kinds of Chinese made units too... Heck even the Millet 6X25 56mm LRS-1 that is on it is made in China but they do shock test on it as opposed to cheaper Chinese brands...

I own one but I have never shot the Hornady stuff, just handloads and Barrett ammo. Mostly handloads though, but I do have 200rds of the Barrett stuff put away just in case.

As far as spotting scopes, I have owned a few now and this one is hands down my favorite - http://www.amazon.com/Redfield-11465...spotting+scope

i have that same spotting scope and agree that its good. I actually liked it better than slightly more expensive leopulds, bushnells, and vortex options. It was by far the clearest to my eyes. And the fact it comes with a cheap (and it is a cheap) tripod and case are added bonuses! Nice to not instantly have to go toss out more money on other things for a spotting scope.

Though for using it for a 50 you'd either need to put it behind you or get a way better tripod. Even my 308 with muzzle break is enough to knock the cheap tripod off target a bit. My 45-70 does as well

This is what I was also wondering about was the tripod that comes with one...? Most seem rather cheap (the tripod) but I like that scope though... May just buy a nice tripod to replace what comes with it...?

Hey good to hear of another 50BMG shooter on here... What "boomstick" do you have (make and model)...? I have the Armalite AR50A-1 and right now I have about 315 rounds of belted Winchester ball (very clean good military stuffs) and about 340 rounds of API, but only a couple of boxes of Hornady and a box of PMC bronze which I hear shoots pretty good too... I find deals here and there the belted Winchester ball ammo was local and had 105 rounds per ammo can which I picked up for $300 cash ea so was a good deal here local... Really considering getting into hand loading myself but damn primers are hard to find and expensive, plus a pound of powder only fills like 35 rounds from what I hear...? This is besides the bullets and all the equipment required... Have built up my brass count though...

I bought a manfrotto quick release plate to put on my redfield, to use my manfrotto tripod I use for my camera, as the included tripod is not adequate for anything much other than shooting small caliber stuff from a bench.

My rifle is a Barrett m99, topped with a Leupold mk4 lr/t 6.5-20x50mm scope. It originally was owned by my grandfather, but when he passed it was given to me.

My pet handload is a 750g a-max with 233g of H50BMG with a 5.45" OAL, and it chronograph a at 2850fps or so. I get almost exactly 30 rounds per pound of powder with those.

I probably have 300 or so of those stocked up, with enough brass to load up another 300 - just need some primers and bullets right now. Last month I went to cabelas in Boise and was able to score an 8lb jug of h50bmg powder, so I at least have some powder on hand. My local ace hardware has the A-max bullets n stock from time to time as well. Primers are the biggest shortage I have right now.

The Pmc bronze does shoot pretty good, if you see that stuff for sale it's worth picking up.

To be fair i shoot off a table at the range so it does sit to the side a bit, but still right next to me and not the muzzle or anything. But yes a good tripod is something to add....but that goes with pretty much any spotting scope

Reloading for 50bmg is one of the few areas that hasnt been hit super hard like the rest of the reloading market. I still see 50bmg primers in store all the time. Powder wise you can get 8lb jugs of pulldown surplus powder for 50 bucks which is a good deal. At 250gr of powder per a shot (approx) an 8lb jug would give you 225 shots or so.

Theres approx 7000gr in a pound of powder for reference and a lot of loads ive seen yield 230-250gr of powder.

The biggest is just the equipment...have to get 50bmg specific stuff. But it isnt terribly expensive and the savings add up quick with the large caliber items!

$1 a round for defense ammo seems normal more often than not to me. Usually see it in 25 round boxes instead of the 50 though. Not a bad price IMO for "duty" ammo

i bought some from there for $38 a box, so it has gone up. i checked several other places and they were asking about $27 a box, but lucky gunner has been pretty expensive since the hoarding started.

I finally took my Mosin Nagant (91-30) out to the range, shot both 148grain light ball surplus and modern 147 grain Tula ammo repackaged as Herters.

I was a bit surprised at the (lack) of recoil. I had been lead to believe that it would kick like a mule, but I found it no worse than my 12 ga shotgun. Granted, I took most shots standing and made sure to pull the butt in tight to my shoulder, but I'm only just a little sore after 50 rounds.

That thing gets damn hot, though. And the wood surrounding the barrel saves the hands, but means it'll be a long time before it's cool. I suppose they weren't made to shoot in the summertime in Texas, though

After that, I put about 150 rounds through the Ruger SR22 (very quickly). I can't recommend it highly enough; after thousands of rounds, the only issues have come from a few rounds with bad primers, and it's more accurate than I am.

hmm good to know. To be honest im not to up on 9mm defense ammo. I got some 147gr Ranger jhp ammo for a good price (500 rounds of it) but other than that i have self defense 9mm ammo. Nor do i use any of it. right now my xds and fnp-45 are my defense guns and both are 45acp's. I use Hornady critical defense ammo for those and that seems to run about a buck a round (ish). Either way for self defense ammo i dont mind spending the dollar a round premium since its only going to be fired when it truly matters. For plinking and general target shooting its how low can i go! (which is why i reload lol)

For those looking for 50bmg primers...widners has the cci ones in stock

Well have a B-day coming soon so may let the wife know I could use a nice Dillon reloading press... (need to start somewhere)

Also I think here soon I will de-belt those 3 cans of military ball that I have and wonder what to do with the belts...? Can they be used for anything or just sell/trade to someone with an M2...? I cannot think of anything to use them for...?

expensive though when I see other places selling it for half that, but those were all out of stock.

That's a terrible price. I can pick that same ammo at LGS for $24 for a box of 50 and they have 124 and 147 gr.

180 gr .40 HST is even $28 for 50 and they have full shelves in stock .

Right.... :hmm:

I actually did consider selling the Sig, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm really hoping that I can make it through grad school without having to give up any of them.

I finally got a basic 3x scope for my Ar15 and took it out to the range today along with my Ruger 10/22 with a 3-9x scope. Ater getting the 10/22 dialed in @ 100yds, I started fooling around with the steel target @ 200 yds. Imaging my surprise when I started plinking off it (all I had to do was turn the scope elevation adjustment all the way up). Going to be nice not having to walk that far out to check the target or replace the paper.

The AR was fun to shoot too. Just had to remember to police all my brass.
