You should be paying ALOT of attention when reholstering. Any sort of accident is on the operator not the firearm

:ninja:

that being said, I have had shirt in holster issues, when I hit the range with a holster I suck it up and tuck the shirt in

Correct, but as I said, I have heard of / seen (videos) of police officers and other people that depend on firearms on a daily basis make mistakes. It's easy to pay close attention when you're holstering in a normal, controlled environment, but throw some urgency and stress into the situation and mistakes can be made.

For me, it's just one more thing that I can do to ensure everything ends up ok.

if you are in an urgent situation you probably shouldnt be holstering your weapon

all danger should be gone and scene clear before you let your guard down

this should be hammered into people in CCW training, its supposd to be for cops

You could argue that if you can't learn to be safe with a firearm under the most stressful situations you shouldn't be carrying one. Because that's when it matters most.

Exactly and training is very important. Eventually you will have muscle memory and things will happen automatically. Like someone learning to swipe the safety on a 1911 or similar. Eventually you do it without thinking. It is one smooth and natural action.

When you holster your weapon the threat should be gone and you really should have time to make sure your holster is clear. There is really no reason to rush it and blindly holster your weapon at that point.

No offense to any LEOs in here but many officers are not gun people. They carry one as a tool of the job and not necessarily because they are proficient with a firearm. They may only qualify with it a couple times a year. So using them as an example of "even experts make mistakes" is not a perfect example.

Where are people buying ammo lately?

I have enough saved up that I haven't bought ammo in a long time. I used to shoot 1,000 rounds a month per caliber. When I see ammo for my calibers in Walmart, gander mountain, or outdoor world I pick up a box or two just to replenish a bit at a time. There are places online that see ammo come and go like tactical defense solutions, ammunition to go, lucky gunner, Natchez, and others. Lately the more popular online retailers have been out of stock on just about everything except obscure calibers and loadings. Lately it seems that gander mountain and outdoor world have the most followed by the smaller local gun shops. Walmart by me has seen empty shelves except a couple boxes of .270 for months.

Local shop here has EVERYTHING except .22. And even then I had several chances to buy a brick but its either unplated LRN or marked up to ass and back. At least it was in my hand and put back

And I mean not just simply have a box of 5.56 and 9mm in stock, but full shelves with multiple brands, weights, etc.

Been picking up 40 HST 180 gr for $28 per 50. 9mm HST 124 gr $24 per 50, green tip 5.56 $9 per 20, 5.56 LC $219 per 420 rd can on the high side but acceptable in times everyone else is trying $300+ and can't keep it in stock.

And their wall is STOCKED with every type of assault rifle you can think of again.

The madhouse is pretty much over now at my location, but Walmart shelves are still being stripped by resellers trying to hold on and make it last. Dickwads.

They hiked prices a little bit on certain ammo and calibers and placed limits on popular calibers. I'm not going to bitch about $28 vs $31 when everyone else is doing $50+ if they even have it.

I can support supply and demand and a couple bucks increase when they are keeping it reasonable and still cheaper than other places blatantly gouging to the sky.

Thing is...its almost $10 difference between them and when outdoor world or gander mountain have stock. I'll wait before paying too much. Since they seem to restock about every week or so on most calibers, no reason to pay inflated prices.

Might not be cost effective. 9mm is limit 3 boxes and it ships ORM-D which is like $20 for an individual and not a high volume business. Most I could get you is 300 rds and that's IF they have 100 rd value packs which go much faster due to the limit on boxes and not rounds.

If you're serious PM a way to contact you real time and Ill look next time I'm there.

ORM-D requires automatic adult signature so other than that it depends on your state/city laws.

Odd that you can't get .38. This whole ordeal all I see anywhere is .38, colt .45, .30-06, .243, .270, and 12ga.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and expand my reloading to include 9mm and .223. I'm trusting that the cost of dies will pay for itself pretty soon.

You guys that have reloaded in those calibers what's reasonable prices for brass and bullets (FMJ, not cast)?

Brass is super cheap if you're ok with buying it second hand.. I buy/sell/trade brass on Reddit and it shouldn't cost you much if you go that route.

As for bullets, I load 9mm with primarily cast/plated bullets. Plated bullets are a great compromise between cast/FMJ and they're usually like $85/1000

Natchez had some Fiocchi 9mm in stock for $15/box. Snagged five boxes for my newly acquired G17. Even with shipping that is a decent price. Found some Federal 9mm in Utah for $16/box at a gun store. Nice to prices coming down. If people would slow their spending on rounds they don't need, this crap would be over.

Don't rifle cases require lube for resizing even with carbide dies? And don't you have to clean off the lube before seating the primer? How does that affect your reloading flow then, do you just resize everything in a batch?

For .223 cases that *haven't* been through my AR:

-Lube with Hornady One Shot
-Full length resize / Deprime
-Remove primer crimp
-Measure (and trim if necessary)

The above steps I do in one sitting, then...

-Prime
-Powder
-Seat
-Crimp

For cases that *have* been through my gun I just neck size w/ a collet die and measure for prep.

I've never cleaned the cases after lube and have never had any issues with the One Shot.

Yes rifle will need to be lubed. You *can* get away with no lubing but if you have an odd case thats slightly overexpanded or was shot in a loose chamber you run a higher risk of it sticking and then its just annoying to get the case out (not hard just annoying).

I do a process very similar to etrigan420

For "dirty" rifle (ie 223 shot from an AR/308 from a semi auto, ect)

-tumble in walnut for 30-1 hour
-lube with rcbs case lube II (works ok, a little goes a LONG ways with the rcbs case lube pad. Seriously one bottle will probably do 50k+ rounds. A couple drops got me through ~700 300blk cases and ~150 308 case)
-Resize and deprime
-Toss in STM and tumbler for awhile.
-Check a sampling for if trim is needed
-prime

Then they sit till im ready to reload

For my "clean" rifle like 308 from a bolt action i skip the walnut at first and just go straight to lubing
