The Springfield XDs is made for concealed carry, not home defense, although it would still go bang if needed.

I'd get a full size service pistol for home defense (1911, SIG P226, Glock 17, XD(m), S&W M&P, etc) for increased capacity and, especially, longer sight radius.

Home defense? 12 gauge is the answer.

Depends on your layout. I have some corners/doorways that I would not like to have the barrel coming out of before I can see.

I think the shotgun as home defense gun debate has already taken place 10 times in this thread. Here we go again!

All I'll say is that my 18" barrel shotgun extends about as far from my body as my M&P 9mm does if I'm carrying it in ready to shoot position.

I've no experience with them. I heard too many stories about issues with the Gen 4s (basically FTF, FTE has this been fixed?) that make me shy away from them.

I have well over 1000 rounds through mine and had 1 FTF that was a bad primer on the round, not the gun, had one FTE in the same box of craptastic federal reload junk

What model? I just remember reading about Gen 4 issues and didn't dig into too much detail about fixes and affected models etc.

Oops, haven't seen the thread in a while. It isn't something I would debate with someone, as everyone's skill/comfort/home/situation is different.

I will say one thing, psychologically, if I were to break into someone's home and hear a shotgun pump, I would think very quickly about getting the hell out of there.

No, don't do that. Making an SBR is not something you want to do. Have a gunsmith do it and get the correct tax stamp ASSUMING you state even ALLOWS SBRs.

Agree with having someone with some skill (and hopefully something more high tech than a hacksaw or reciprocating saw to cut with) do the job.

However, my Mossberg 500 shotgun has a tube that's 1/4" shorter than the barrel, and it's not an SBR. Just has a longer tube, is all.

Anyone here own a Glock 21 ? I thinking about adding one to my arsenal...

If not anyone have any good recommendations on a .45? No need to be concealable per say. Probably would just be for the home etc.

I thought about a Springfield XDS or whatever its called but I don't like the small magazine...

A good friend of mine carried a Springfield 1911 for years, as his concealed carry pistol, and swore by it. Then he bought a Glock 21, and loves it too. It's definitely bulkier/thicker, but if you can conceal it, why not? Mostly, he loves the 13 rounds it carries, versus the 8 he'd have in the Springfield.

no pump on my 11-87P

Hopefully 8 shotshells of 00 buck fired off in rapid succession would do the trick in scaring all the blood out of an invader though.

That would be an SBS, not an SBR.. There are some differences on length and such

You are much better off already having one in the tube.. If the time comes to get out your gun it better be ready to use..

Yes, but I understand what he was trying to say. A shotgun is hella scary when you are staring down the business end. It triggers something in most people that probably would think "he'll miss with that 9mm."

The LCP is NOT intimidating.
My one fear is if I ever have to pull the thing its likely I'll need to shoot it before anyone takes me seriously.

You guys seriously take the fear thing way too far.. If you grab your gun because someone is in your home scaring them should NOT be the goal. It takes a lot longer for someone to get scared than it does for someone to get shot..

There is no problem with having bark and the bite to back it up. You don't just round a corner and start blazing.

The best outcome is always no shots fired, with the 2nd best being a ruling of justifiable homicide by the police/DA.

While I am prepared to shoot if need be, I really don't want the mess, my gun taken away for god knows how long, and the chance for a moron detective to arrest me even if charges are never filed. God forbid the asshole takes the .45 JHPs and lives, leaving he opportunity for a suit, even if frivolous.

Just make sure to stand on the back deck to do your shooting......or simply shoot through the front door, regardless of whether someone's there, or not!!
