A lot of people like Magpul mags/grips/stocks/sights/random accessories. You can find Magpul at a lot of places. A nice all-in-one place to buy gear is http://www.brownells.com/.

Will have to check that out thanks!

midwayusa, bravocompany, brownells, joeboboutfitters, your local gun store, ect. It shouldnt be that hard to find pretty much anything AR you could want.

The concern I have isn't finding parts.. it's finding parts at a good price. The local gun shop around me is really hit or miss with prices.

Here's a LINK to the AR discussion page at arfcom, there's a thread at the top with links to various deals on various parts...

Also primary arms and aim surplus have a couple good deals in their labor day sales right now too, PA is selling black Gen2 PMags for $8.99

On a bright note my local Academy store stopped limiting ammo purchases on everything except 9mm and .22:awe: They've got pretty much everything in stock and overflowing, especially .223, now I just need to find time to hit the range

imma bout to sell my damn Ruger LCP because it uses .380 ammo D:

it's impossible to find where i live...heres to hoping my shipment from online purchase actually comes in

I had the good sense to stock up before the ammo rush. I also have plenty of manstoppers so I can still carry it around for protection.

Seriously? I once didn't shoot for 6 months due to financial constraints. I pulled out my 1911 after said period and went through 100 rounds of cheap brass without a single hiccup, and I've shot it dry with similar performance. Nor do I carefully lube it, I clean it with break-free, that's my lube. I think you've shot some shitty or not-broken-in 1911s.

And I'll admit Glock/modern field strips are much simpler to do, but in terms of parts the only real difference is a barrel bushing, and even if someone doesn't know precisely what it does they can still remember how to put it back together. Why should anyone need to know what the sere does? Granted it's good to know, but said knowledge is not vital to the function of the weapon.

I could go on, but you're saying a lot of stuff here that's not making much sense.

Cause when it wears and accuracy goes to shit...you need to be able to understand why. When the sear breaks, and it can happen you get issues...yeah you gotta check that shit.

I am making perfect sense. The gun is designed with parts that are fitted. That shit wears out over time.

That applies to any gun though. Shoot an ar and you'll eventually break something. Shoot a glock and you'll need to replace things, a Sig 226, 92fs, ect. It's not just a 1911 thing to say it'll wear out with use.

That and no matter what gun it is, if you have a problem and don't know what is going on its best to take it to a gunsmith and learn as he looks it over.

I enjoy both my 1911s and other types of guns but even so there comes a point I won't mess with them and take em to someone who knows what to do

The surplus guns, from what I have read, is only on us surplus guns...so m1 garands, 1903s, ect. That's the wording I have seen. Would have to see the actual eo to know for sure though. But since congress has a congressional law with the fnp for garands not sure how that would play out exactly.

The nfa trust is another example of them not knowing what they are talking about. If I buy a nfa item I get a background check on me when I pick the item up. If I then give it to someone who is a felon on my trust you have provided a firearm to a felon anyways...which is illegal. It's just silly and a non issue to begin with. The only reason people do trusts is cause the cleo signoff is nearly impossible to get in most areas. If the std changed that then you'd see a crap ton more nfa items registered to individuals.

Fix what's broken instead of breaking more crap.

LOL

I have to repost this to a local board

one of the guys is an FFL and thinks the only ccw gun anyone should buy is the XDS, or an STI(he LOOOOVES STI)

I'm betting they're a Glock hater too. You know how dangerous those things are, without a safety! [/sarcasm]

I have an LCP for pocket carry. I don't really understand how people can carry IWB all day and having to wear a cover garment for OWB is annoying. LCP is great for shorts pockets.

I know tons of guys that IWB year round in IL

I honestly don't know how it's comfortable. Even if it's perfectly concealed I've found it still limits movement. You can't lay on your side/back comfortably, for starters. That and given that I almost never wear undershirts or baggy clothes, any attempt at IWB will print on me.

Pocket carry is just more convenient IMO unless you feel the need to carry a larger gun. Especially with the spread of sub-compact 9s on the market.

ha my one buddy IWBs a les baer full size most of the time

when hes not its an airweight in the cargo pocket

he doesn't wear baggy shirts, just the cheap short sleeve button ups from old navy most of the time

even in t shirts its hard to tell

how much do you plan to lay on your side in public where you would be carrying?

It's not just laying on my side. If I'm sitting at a desk or table and lean forward/to the sides, or stretch, there will be significant printing on a even a compact gun. If I lean back and/or shift to the side in my seat, I feel it pressing into me.

I think the main issue is my body type. I'm 5'11" with a medium frame and am very vertically even; so I'm not so lanky that my clothing can hang off me (to hide something) nor do I have any curves or recesses big enough to tuck the butt of a gun into.

The problems aren't insurmountable, I could make minor alterations to my wardrobe and likely be fine, but the additional discomfort just isn't worth it to me.

seriously, i think dredd has some kind of weird hate for the 1911.
When something doesn't work right in my car, I take it to a mechanic. When my body doesn't work right, I take it to a doctor. same thing with a gun. you don't need to know everything about it and how to fix every problem yourself. If you've got any intelligence at all, if the gun develops issues and you don't know why or what it is, you go to a gunsmith.
