The Mark III or 22/45 would be my choice at the moment. But the SR22 gets good reviews. As does the M&P22. The buckmarks should also be considered. The 1911 22lrs (like the sig and gsg) also have gotten pretty good reviews.

Price wise it seems like the all range from 350-400 for most models. Some can be more expensive of course. But seems like 350-400 is a pretty common price point. I picked up my 22/45 for 389 (plus tax). The SR22 they had was like 360, the M&P22 was around the same price.

agreed.

The 22/45 LITE model is very nice (esp. with volquartsen MKII trigger for magazine drop). The SR22 is also very nice as is the S&W M&P22. I don't have any experience with buckmark or the non-22/45 mark III. The LITE, SR22, and M&P22 all come stock with threaded barrels for muzzle devices which is nice. The 22/45 LITE comes with an optics rail which makes it a very fun, sweet, and quick plinker equiped with a small red dot.

I like 1911s but would neither recommend a .45 generally, nor a 1911 specifically, as a first gun. Too expensive to shoot, and reliability is too dependent on maintenance.

Once again, I'm not sure where this reputation comes from. I've shot my 1911 dry and have had zero issues, and I know people who swear by the reliability of their RIAs, which are as entry-level as it comes. The whole "1911s need to be handled with kid-gloves to run properly" is pure myth IMO. Sure there are probably more issues as you lower the price point, but once you get past the $1000 mark reliability is on par with any other full-sized handgun IMO. And the Ruger 1911 seems to boast the same at $700.

So while I would agree that a 1911 shouldn't be someone's first gun, reliability is not one of the reasons I'd cite. If you own a 1911 that needs to be cleaned in order to fire reliably, I suggest you send it back to get fixed under warranty or sell it/trade it towards a better 1911.

Cleaned my AR for the first time today. Pretty straightforward. I think I will get a special AR-15 chamber brush.

Some things I noted:
- Apparently the extractor spring does have an up and a down. I put it back together the first time and tried cycling some rounds through - failed to extract the first round and jammed the 2nd bullet back into its cartridge.
- Primer dimpling is still weird to me, even though I know it's common with floating firing pins.
- I can't clean guns without making a huge mess. I need to make a dedicated space for it in the garage instead of using the dining room table.
- I beat the shit out of my hands whenever I clean my Remington 870.

My kitchen has the best lighting so I just bought a 3'x3' folding table and it seems to be OK for cleaning. I dunno, I spend hours detail cleaning after every outing. Something about it calms me and time flies as i nit-pick every tiny corner of carbon deposit. I guess it is a great way to understand how the gun functions and is a great help when troubleshooting on the fly.

On my tavor, which I am assuming the bolt-carrier group is very similar, the firing pin threw me for a loop for a few minutes. The instructions are great for everything except the firing pin. Kind of hard to explain, but the rear portion of the firing pin has 2 semi-circular protrusions coaxial to the pin itself and they have to line up correctly with a counter protrusion in the bolt otherwise it just can't be put back together.

I haven't detail stripped by 870 yet, what about it beats your hands up? Hopefully I can prevent that from happening to me lol.

Just dumb stuff. Today I wasn't expecting the bore brush to pop out as quickly as it did so I was still applying a good amount of pressure and running into the chamber end of the barrel skinned a 1" square if my thumb. I also mashed my thumb with the hammer because I just wasn't thinking. Putting the forend and BCG back in always causes me grief as well. Dropped the bolt on the ground today and got dog hair in fresh oil.

I tested out 4-5 different types at the range (buddys guns + rentals) and I ended up liking the 1911 the best which is what led me to it. Does anyone have a list of items I should get to build my cleaning kit?

So I ended up taking the sr1911 to the range yesterday. Went through about 200 rounds of ammunition and didn't have any misfeeds or anything. So much fun! Breaking it down and cleaning it was easy (except when I was trying to put the slide stop back in. That took me a bit to get right) Overall, I'm extremely happy with this bad boy!

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out how to hold the slide back at the proper position under tension with my strong hand by wrapping my thumb behind the backstrap and holding the slide open with my four fingers over top of the slide and place the slide lock with my weak hand. I wish I could find 200 rounds of brass 45 at a decent price ($0.40/rd) in order to have an outing like that! My local range used to reload, but they haven't been getting their 45 acp supplies in for a while :-(

Who makes a good cheaper 1911? I don't have a 45 and I'd like to try one out at some point, but I don't really want to spend $1k+ on a handgun.

Ruger. Springfield Armory. Rock Island if you get a good one from the get-go (you have to know enough about 1911s to check fitment at the store.

Colt is probably the best non-custom but a little over your price point.

Rock Island Armory is a great bang for your buck 1911. Cheap but still good guns. $450-$500. For a name brand probably the cheapest is going to be a mil spec Springfield. Around $650 for a very basic gun with garbage sights. For the same $650 you can get an STI Spartan which to me is a vastly superior gun. Philipian frame with STI internal. Great gun for the money.

The ruger is around 650 and a good gun for the money

Just held a nano, kimber solo 9mm, and SIG 938

Only one I liked holding was the SIG. Rural king has it for 620$ on sale. Do want.

My latest addition to the collection = http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/glock-26-9mm-safe-action-pistol/pid-384813?N=39632023

Glock 26 Gen 4 for $580 ($50 premium over the 3rd Gen) plus 2 boxes (can't get more than 2) of Remington 9mm FMJ $16/each for a total of $612 OTD (no sale tax on guns/ammo/hunting related this weekend).

I kinda wish I did get the Ruger LC9C ($430) but did not get it because of the reputation of Glock , the interchangeable usage of magazines, and the simplicity of the Glock. Also, not sure about the safety lever. The Sig P250 ($430) was nice too but I did not like all the levers and stuffs on the gun.

Now time for a good CCW holster, any recommendation, ya'll?

Very nice. My wife really wants a ppq and the only con is the lack of night sites. Did you install yourself using a punch and hammer, or did you have it done by a 'smith?
They are very easy to install yourself. The front sight is held by a small Allen screw, the rear is held by a spring loaded detent pin. You will need a .050 Allen wrench for the front and a small flat bladed screwdriver for the rear. The rear is adjustable. There several are YouTube videos and write-ups on the internet about how to install them.

Nice man. I have a G26 G4 in FDE, and love it.

As for CCW holster, what type do you prefer? For in the waistband, check out this one (the professional is one of the best out there). Nice and comfortable, and locks in the weapon securely but allows for a quick draw when needed.

Doesn't really apply for the G26, but for those of you looking for a good pocket holster, you should check out Mika's pocket holsters: http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/

Guy is an ex-cop and does all the stitching himself. Just got one and it is leaps and bounds better than the leather pocket holster I was using (which was by no means cheap). I was probably an idiot getting a leather holster in the Florida heat, but the new one is about 1000% easier to draw from the pocket and completely masks the outline of my gun (leather holster did an ok job, not great).

In terms of supporting the little guy, can't go wrong here. Just takes a few weeks to get your order.

Ok, it works now, thank ManBearPig. Oh, why did you change your nick, kazamn? Did you remember to buy any lottery tickets lately?

$700 for the gun (Glock G26 gen 4) and 400 Winchester 9 mm FMJ bullets.

Thanks to all that gave suggestions for holsters <thumb up>

Imgur is good cuz you dont even need an account to upload. BUT, you wont be able to find your old pics without an account, so keep good track of those links.

Reloading .223 I notice some runout on the loaded cartridges. I roll them on a table and the bullet tip wobbles. Not on all of them , just some. Would a competition seating die help? Using Lee collet neck sizer with Lee standard seating die. Averaging 3/4 MOA but feel I can do better with improved concentricity.

I don't have a ton of experience with holsters, but my Comp-Tac MTAC IWB holster works great. From what I gather, CrossBreed also makes good ones.
