Was in gander mtn and I saw 2 guns in the used case that I almost purchased.

Keltec pf9 (249.99) and the ruger sr22.. Both were pretty nice. I would have picked up the PF9 had it not been for the worn away front sights.. that tells me it probably had some serious usage and I was learly of that.

$249 for a heavily used PF9? Lol they are $260 brand new.

especially since they aren't as scarce anymore. The past few gunshots I attended had plenty of Keltec offerings. only one I didnt see was the RFB. Used PF9 should be below 200$...

WOOHOO!! Air Force base exchanges are now going to start carrying firearms and ammo!

Sounds good, though I doubt they will be anything special in terms of selection or value (unless the BX's have changed dramatically since I left the service). Still, the lack of sales tax alone should make them a relatively good deal.

I agree. Base exchanges are crap most of the time for price. Everything is usually at full retail price nowadays all the time. And the few sales they have tend to suck in comparison to local major retailers around them. They are only good for convenience as long as you still on base and know what you need to buy is usually near full retail price anyhow. When it comes to firearms and ammo, especially this past year, that is going to be the case wherever you go. Every place selling firearms right now is near full MSRP on them. So saving just the tax on price is a pretty darn good deal for now considering.

I was only there this weekend with my wife's family as they are retired and live just outside the base. Randolph doesn't really have any major retailers like walmart or target nearby so it is more convenient for her parents to shop there. So we were just spending time with them this weekend and going through the BX when I noticed that sign. Depending on what is available it should be decent deals in comparison to everything else around here for awhile.

I'm 99% sure I'm going to get a G4 Glock 19. But I also really want to see some P226's in person but no one in town stocks many of them.

Both are excellent choices. I personally have a fundamental issue with DA/SA guns, but if I did not, there is nothing better than a Sig. Personally, the compromises Glock has made suit me best of all handgun makers, but your mileage may vary.

I have a G4 Glock 19, Walther ppq m2, and sig p226. The Sig is much heavier than both being mostly metal construction, after getting it some lovin' by a sig armorer, the trigger is nicer, although still heavy at 9.5/4. It also cost over 1k$ (limited run 9mm equinox). The Glock 19 pulls at 6lbs and the walther pulls at 4.5 lbs.

If I had to only have one polymer compact (e.g. workhorse do-everything 9mm), the ppq m2 would be it (so far, still puttin it through its paces. my g19 is 100% /~700 rds). The ergos is better for me than the glock. The trigger is much better as well. Depending on where you shop, the price is roughly the same for both as well ($550), although sometimes you can find the g19-4 for ~$500. The only minus to the walther is magazines cost 45$ if you can find them (they are scarce). Glock comes with 3 magazines (~$20 each if purchased separately), the walther comes only with 2.

Have you looked at S&W M&P series?

Walther isn't an option. I'm a snob.

I already have a Gen 3 g26 that I love. But I really want something just a bit bigger.

Are there any p226s without an external safety?

And yes I checked out the m&p. I was very disappointed. It looks great on paper, terrible in my hands

My recommendations for a pistol, if one is interested in all metal and don't mind 9mm, is getting a hold of a Tristar T-100 for $350 or less new. Seriously the best value for an all aluminum gun one can get.

I'm not exactly big on value when it comes to guns. I like to support the manufactures that I like. Glock and Sig can have my money any day over a one hit wonder.

But I am seriously thinking about getting a Taurus slim for s backup/pocket piece.

Well, it's just a good price for a firearm of the same quality level in my opinion. I like glocks and sigs, I even own them I posted a picture of my Tristar T-120 I that I own earlier in this thread. Beauty of a gun it is too!

I don't know why even a snob would be scared off by a Walther - they have been recognized as premium German firearms for decades. By all accounts (I have not fired one) the PPQ is functionally a Glock with a nicer trigger, which sounds great to me.

The P226 doesn't have an external safety - just the decocking lever, which is integral to its design, and not something I could imagine removing.

I'm good with the lever, just not the safety.

I'm not saying Walther isn't good. Its just not a brand I am interested in. It looks like maybe I should order the p226 from Buds. They have a very respectable selection and I've wanted to try an ffl sale....

It's a CZ75 clone. Which is what a baby desert eagle is. Most of the CZ75 clones sold around the world right now come from Turkey They do have good firearm manufacturing companies there.

CZ's are made in the USA, but then again, Sig is German and Glock is Austrailian so it's not exactly as if anyone is using a made in the USA argument when you buy those products either.

put 100 rounds down range with my pistol today.

10yds was pretty good. I'd say 80+% on target (CoM), all hits on the paper.

15yds my hit rate was < 50% funny how much a different a mere 5 yards makes. i need more practice! (only 2nd time shooting my pistol)

went with a 2 friends and had a great time. good part is i have another 250rds that i can put down on another weekend

Get to dry firing the pistol a lot at home. Aim at light switches, door knobs, anything consistent. Just to train yourself that nothing happens when you pull the trigger, gets your body used to not anticipating the shot.

I hope you don't live in a condo.

You never ever want to point a gun at anything that could be a risk if it discharges.

Sure you can bang out a full "clip" worth at the floor first, but I still don't believe in pointing guns randomly around.

I know its a magazine...I still use clip.

Nothing wrong with dry firing as exercise as long as the gun is cleared first. Personally I like to have no ammo in the area just to be on the safe side. I often dry-fire at the TV as practice.
