Try a Sig P938 if you can find one. It's a semi-auto 9mm, but racking the slide is very easy compared to many other semi-autos. Putting the guide rod / recoil spring back into the slide after cleaning is not fun, though.

On another note, I have a Sig P225 on the way from Gunbroker. It's my first GB deal, so I'm hoping everything goes smoothly. The money order just got to the guy today, but he apparently wasn't home to sign for it. And I still have to wait for it to get to the FFL, then go fill out the paperwork...

...the suspense is killing me!

Nice on the Sig. I almost bought one last weekend but another guy got to it before me. I was still up in the air so walked away and came back and he'd sold it. Interesting guns and i want one for the history factor.

I did see a guy selling a nice S&W 29. I want one of those so bad. I have a 629 but want the dirty harry gun

Shouldn't be too hard to find a used one.

Surprisingly, it is. At least for a reasonable price.

Maybe I'll hit up a gun show. My problem is I only want certain models and all I can find is the models I dont like (they have about 7 of them).

Where do you guys get your ammo (9mm in my case) with the lowest prices?

I look and look but online stores are not any cheaper than the local Academy.

I'll admit I haven't exhausted all ammo resources, but the best prices I've seen have come from Freedom Munitions. I still have a 500 round case of 9mm that I've yet to break into that I bought 6 months or so ago. :awe:

I've only bought the remanufactured ammo, and have had no problems with it, but they also usually offer new ammo at great prices too.

I just keep checking Cabela's website and set it up for in-store pickup. I bought 1000 rounds of 9mm Remington 147gr @ $15.99/50 from them just yesterday.

Hey Guys..and gals,

I'm joining the club. I have my full lower, with mags and pop-up sights. I'm still hunting for the right upper, but I think I'm going with a 16"

http://www.slickguns.com/product/16...uad-rail-complete-bcg-and-charging-handle-499

All i need now is a bag and strap. any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not looking for anything expensive, just useful.

thanks

Suggest you keep your eye on PSA (Palmetto State Armory) deals, since they seem to have a new one every week. If you can combine one they have now with the free shipping this weekend, even better!

I should be getting mine on Monday (takes them ~3 weeks to build & test fire them, then get it to you). Paid $419 for that one.

I have a buddy who's retired Air Force, got to patrol in Afghanistan, who told me he was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the $400 upper he got from them. He has also custom-built his own AR's, so I trust his judgement on it.

As far as bags go, check out Drago and Voodoo Tactical. Both make bags that are pretty darn nice, but won't break the bank. Straps are one of those things that are personal preference, so you might try out different ones. Luckily, they run less than uppers & lowers & stocks!!

They make nice uppers for the price. Id say 1-2MOA type accuracy. Nothing spectacular but still pretty good! Thats both my dads and mine.

As for bags i have a Voodoo Tactical Double Gun case in 42". Works great for the range as one bag brings two of my guns. Fits the AR's easily and anything up to about 43" in length. m1 garand fits as does my sks which are bigger than 42". Plenty of pockets for mags, some ammo, or other stuff.

My Walmarts all have ammo in stock regularly. No more hit-and-miss.

Prices are (approximately, I'm rounding up):

1000 rounds Federal 55-grain 5.56 $400
1000 rounds Federal 62-grain 5.56 $450
420 rounds Federal 62-grain 5.56 (w/ ammo can) $200
150 rounds Federal 62-grain 5.56 $70

I bought a crapton of CCI .22LR today. 500 round bricks just sitting on the shelves for $40. 100 round packs of Mini-Mags for $8. Ammo quantity limits are still in place (it's usually 3 regular packs or 1 bulk pack per person).

If anything, looking for ammo deals online is a fool's errand. You'll pay much less locally at this time (that may change).

Scratch one item off of the "guns I've always wanted to get" list. Picked up a Marlin 39a from a guy on a local gun forum yesterday. Already popped 2 squirrels with it in the first 24 hours of ownership.

Its very YMMV. There are no places that sell in bulk near me for pistol ammo. I stock up when I find a deal but its been a while since I have needed to.

But then again winter is coming so I'll be at the range more.....

:hmmm:

Just bought a STI Spartan IV for the wife today. I was surprised she went with a 1911. She's not a big fan of shooting either of my Colts.

I can find bulk ammo but i have to pay sales tax on it. Or i can order it online and usually save a couple bucks even with shipping. And get exactly what i want. That and the one store that does sell bulk i refuse to buy from and the couple others are on the high side pricing wise (big box stores)

Walmart. 9mm, .40, .45, 380, and 5.56/223 have all been in steady supply lately. More than my budget will allow.

My walmart has been fine on 223/556 and 762x39. Seem to always have 10 or boxes of each now. But pistol calibers is still very hit or miss. Been in there plenty of times and not seen anything in pistols. Im actually starting to prefer the local Fred Meyers (kroger) since they put in their gun section. They've actually had 9, 40, 10mm, 45, ect coming in and staying. prices are pretty much wal mart prices (different brands so cant really compare directly). I dont know why i really look since i never buy any but i do

The Walmart that is the closest to me has been having 150 round boxes of American Eagle 5.56X45 62gr (green tip) for $69.95ea for some time now and been buying a box here and there... Cost more than big bulk boxes but well within a budget... The guy I that I deal with that is behind the counter keeps saying it will keep getting cheaper and will keep getting it...

Bought this last night too...

They have the black version for $299, either looks a good deal for a 17 round 9mm... Reviews seem to be good... Cheap so what the heck...

Can a dirty bore (175-200 rounds) have a lower point of impact than a clean bore in a .223? My rifle was shooting about 2" lower at 200 yards at the end of the day than at the beginning. Started clean and ended with nearly 200 rounds down the tube. Going insane trying to think this out.

2" at that range could be a lot of things.
Were you shooting reloads? I can't imagine 200 rounds fouling up the barrel.

But I'm a pistol and shotgun guy. Never been big on rifles.

How rapidly were you firing? Barrel heating up could alter the point of impact at 200 yards.

Your response reminds me of something, and that something is the truth which means i'm likely not imagining things. I'm hoping it was temperature variables or something, but everything points toward one of two things: Either I simply misjudged the entire situation and nothing is wrong, or something is actually wrong and needs to be addressed. I suspect something is actually wrong because 200 rounds is probably not enough to drop 2" due to fouling.
They are hand loads and are all consistently charged. Never had an issue like this before.

Could be the scope mount loosened up?

I worry it may be a loose stock screw, or perhaps the action shifted in the stock and I need a bedding job. It DID happen right after I let someone else use my gun. For all I know that guy used the scope as a handle to push himself off of his seat when he was done shooting and he could have tweaked the scope.
I'll have to go to the range this weekend and shoot it as it is, and then clean it and shoot again to see if POI changes. If it doesn't change, then I get to start the diagnostic process.

EDIT: @ irishscott
The gun was shot rapidly at times, creating a barrel that felt hot if you kept your hand on it, but other times the shots were less frequent. So barrel temp may have played a role.
