Honestly, after getting into guns, it seems like EVERYONE here owns/shoots guns. Wouldnt any president who tries to pass anti-gun laws just get destroyed (vote wise)? Seems like all this shit is done hush hush so people dont actually figure it out until its too late.

That's why Obama's waiting till his second term to try to pass anti-2nd Amendment laws. It would harm his chances of getting reelected if he had done it in his first term.

Republicans own the house, and are not likely to loose it. And there are a decent number of 2nd amendment Democrats. The most Obama could likely do is appoint anti-gun justices, which would be a problem but not an earth-shattering one.
I couldn't imagine anything MORE earth shattering.

I was listening to the news and they were also saying that there were hints holder and obama did this on purpose (well, not the parts that spiraled out of control, lol) to make guns look bad and pass more strict gun control laws.

Honestly, after getting into guns, it seems like EVERYONE here owns/shoots guns. Wouldnt any president who tries to pass anti-gun laws just get destroyed (vote wise)? Seems like all this shit is done hush hush so people dont actually figure it out until its too late.

On the first point, ATF paperwork from F&F did admit they wanted to spin F&F to cause anti-gun sentiments if the public perceived gun walking in a negative way.

On the second point, come visit WA, where a coworker when they found out I owned a glock (this was a while ago) asked "how long until you come to work and kill some people?" He was serious.

Two words: Executive Order.

LOL what'd you tell that dude? Many people I've seen that are into guns seem kinda weird/trashy/whatever, but many are also some of the nicest people I've met. Same with pretty much any sub-population...there are good ones and bad ones.

Oh yeah, I'm waiting to buy my 9mm gun but haven't found it yet...I have, however, found some decent-awesome ammo deals...should I purchase ammo ahead of time or is it something that fluctuates a lot?

I think the fact that I owned a gun casually came up. Welcome to Seattle, ultra liberal city and as such very anti-gun. People at the range are the friendliest people you'll meet. Outside the range, that I own a gun is a closely gaurded secret.

The problem I have and many in my socio-economic group (>$150k household income), that too many of the gun owners that have multiple weapons not only choose to brag about them, but then do not do any home security and live in attached dwellings where many with nothing to lose live. They really don't care if there stuff gets stolen until their 'insurance' starts denying them. Also many of us debate where the money comes from they are buying all their guns with.

IMHO one of the biggest responsiblities a gun owner has is to secure their guns.

Yeah, it just depends. I haven't run into many real nuts in person, mainly just some racist types (but it's the south, so they're everywhere...). The most annoying thing to me about online gun forums is that everyone tends to assume that you're old, white and republican. But generally if you avoid the politics/OT sections of those forums it's not an issue.

If you're 100% that you're getting a 9mm then yeah grab the good deals if you see them. However I would not spend a lot on ammo until you see really how much & often you will actually shoot.

It sounds like money is tight so I'd save for the 9MM.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. But you know how it is...buy the gun, then bam, can't find any sales and all that lol.

Wish the fucking gun would get in stock!
Which one again?

Stainless (polished) CZ 75B

If that proves hard to locate (based on a quick google they don't seem to be extremely common) you may want to take a look at the Taurus PT1911 Stainless in 9mm, since you mentioned an interest in 1911s before.

FYI you may be waiting for months. I don't know what CZ's production model is like, but many gun manufacturers have a rotating process. They'll produce some models of guns some months of the year, then switch over and make the rest of their line in the remaining time. If the Stainless 75B isn't in the current production cycle, said cycle may not start for some time.

I would never recommend someone be subjected to Taurus...

I don't really buy into the Taurus hate. YMMV

Too many people report stuff like tooling marks on revolvers, so bad that the gun will only fire 2-3 times before binding up. Also, reports of Rossi guns going down the hell hole are becoming common, with one being posted in the last few days on the firing line - gun wouldn't load rounds into the tube magazine, wouldn't chamber. Some people do well by Taurus, but too many report issues for it to be worth the risk. Ruger, or S&W for revolvers.

Similar to how I now avoid Remington/Marlin.

Since there seem to be a couple guys from the Seattle area in this thread...

Any opinions on the local ranges/shops on where to purchase? I'm thinking Champion Arms since it's the closest range, and they throw in a range pass w/ purchase. I've not checked w/ them on their price/stock (.45 compact xdm, guessing it's not in stock).

Anywhere else I should consider? Looks like West Coast Armory has a decent price, but not in stock and I don't believe they offer the range pass.

I breifly was a member at West Coast. They asked me to take my M14 elsewhere. Their reason was it is "too loud" but what I've been told is their backstop is insufficient, and while it was SUPPOSED to be rated for .50 cal rounds, a high caliber round went through the backstop.

Honestly, good store, bad range. I'm a member at Wade's in Bellevue - they're expanding shortly. All stores should be able to order a gun for you though.

The big problem is military grade full metal jacket, which is dirt cheap at gun shows but tends to punch through most plating. Our local range no longer allows 5.56 or 7.63 unless one of the range officers checks it and sees all you have is hollow point.

The GREAT part though? You apply in January. You get the permit in August or something. When was the permit signed and dated as approved? March. They're holding on to the permits for MONTHS just to play a political game.

O im sure they do. Like you sai it probably takes only a couple weeks then they just sit on it. But o well. I wont be bale ot use it (or any gun!) for that matter for a good 6 months now so not a big deal to wait.

I think the fact that I owned a gun casually came up. Welcome to Seattle, ultra liberal city and as such very anti-gun. People at the range are the friendliest people you'll meet. Outside the range, that I own a gun is a closely gaurded secret.

Guess it's a bit different on my side of the water. Over in Bremerton at least. Much more blue collar i would say and plenty of gun owners. Just no real place to shoot anymore >.< At work you'd have more luck finding someone with a gun than someone without one, and even worse luck finding someone who is anti gun.

For ranges i would say the one i like the best is Wades in Bellevue. Well lit, good ventilation, lots of lanes. Can shoot AR's in the members area as well. Only thing i dont care for is the 2-3 employees who "patrol" the range the entire time. Sometimes they can be cool (had one sweep a couple lanes worth of brass for me) and sometimes they can be a bit rude. Tons of guns to rent as well. The store....its not bad. Nothing special though.

Bulleye's in Tacoma is where i usually go just due to it being the closest to me. The range itself is pretty cheap to use. But its not as well lit as Wade's and the vent isnt the best. But it still does just fine for me. Only 12 lanes too so could end up waiting on the weekends. The store don below isnt owned by the range. They have some great guys in the store who are friendly and helpful. Plenty of selection as well. Usually isnt super busy but its more of a constant couple of customers.

Surplus Ammo in..lakewood i believe?...is a nice place as well. Small store and its always crowded when i go. but plenty of guns to pick from and a large selection of ammo. These are the same guys from surplusammo.com fyi. You can end up waiting for awhile though since it is busy.

Sounds familiar...though most of the range masters are fine. One brought in his M4 shotgun for a friend and I to shoot (I think it was the M4 semi-auto) - but we go often enough that we know a lot of the people that work there. I've never had a real issue other than them being a little rude at times. But whatever, I just ignore it and enjoy the range.
