I've got one of those; I like it.
Finally got to pick up the 226! I'm so happy.
Just need to put the night sights on. I'm going to give it a try on Monday.
so i went to a group shoot with a bunch of people yesterday (big outdoor range) and holy crap i want to get more guns now
front runners are a .22 pistol for plinking, .22 rifle for long range plinking, 12ga shotgun, and some type of scary black rifle (does .223 vs 5.56 matter?)
also i have no idea what cost vs. quality are like for these things. open to suggestions!

I was gonna reply to your post Fenixgoon but velillen pretty much hit it on the money. I just picked up a Ruger Mark III 22/45 Lite yesterday, I gotta get off my fuckin ass and get to the range. Can't wait to try it out!
CZ makes some really nice looking .22 bolt action rifles.

I went to a gunshow today and there was a brand new S&W MP15 5.56/.223 carbine (not the cheap Sport version w/out dust cover and forward assist) for $899 plus sale tax.
Was that too good to be true? I don't remember new AR from any good brand was for less $1K before tax (maybe except online stores with special but then you have to pay shipping plus transfer fees/etc.).
You guys have good sporting departments at your Walmarts. Ours never had any brass 9mm in stock, only the cheap steel ones.
PSA had some deals this weekend where you could put together an AR15 for ~$560, sans shipping and FFL transfer fee. If you want a good, inexpensive AR15 I suggest you camp their website for weekend and daily deals.
Academy has AR's for 599 in stock.
It's hard for me to understand how some of you guys still talk about 'the shortage' when I live in Tennessee and am not noticing one. It's still hard to find handgun ammo at Walmart. That's about it...but, you know...fuck Walmart.
Oh, and still a run on .22, I think...but...you know...fuck .22.

Synla- Maybe I'm AR-ignorant, but I thought DPMS was considered a reliable brand, even if obviously not the best. Colt is just overpriced, IMO.
Classifieds. People seem to be unloading their personal stashes for cheap.Heh, same thing I thought. Went up quite a bit. So much for Walmart not raising ammo prices. Btw, where'd you get 1000 rounds for $200?

I said in my previous post "good brand" AR and I don't think DPMS ($599 @ Academy) is a good brand such as Colt IMO.

Probably bought it on a credit card for $500 lol
Shortage has long passed. Wal-Mart just gets so little ammo at a time that the resellers can keep on top of it and flip their three boxes a day on gunbroker, armslist, etc

Anyone got opinions on VZ grips? I really don't want to spend this much, but they make ones with varying levels of aggressive grip and I gotta admit, some of their patterns are pretty swanky, too.
I will probably try the Hogue rubbers I mentioned just because they're cheap and I know I like them. But pending a trip to the range, this could become a carry gun and I tend to believe those that say concealing a gun with sticky grips is not the greatest idea. VZ 'Frags' seem to be the CC recommendation. Both for moderate grip without being sandpaper, and they're 1.2" thick, which is about the thinnest I'm seeing. Aluminums are in the 1.1-1.2 range.

But in the same breath I'm talking about parts for a $350 CZ-75...so our opinions are probably gonna differ. I'm happy to shy away from the big names if I think sufficient quality available for large monetary savings.
Colt is 'good' because of their name. They are not really any better than Rock River(great rifles per $$) and DPMS
THey put some nicer parts on their stock rifles, chrome lined heavier barrel for example, but its nothing you cant put on a 'cheaper' rifle for probably a little less
IMO
they are nothing special at all.
and of couse they QC is well known
BMW/Mercedes Benz/Porche/Lexus = BCM/Noveske/LaRue/Colt/LMT/KAC/H&K
Honda/Jeep/Toyota/Ford = S&W M&P, PSA and Rock River
Hyundai/Kia = Bushmaster
Yugo/AMC Pacer/Matchbox Car/Turd sandwich = DPMS
