Windham or the Mossberg MMR is the best bang for the buck pre-built AR15 that doesn't come accessorized out from the get go.

MAC review for Windham

A friend picked up the Mossberg MMR hunter. It was in one of the camo patterns. Nice gun and had zero issue out of the box. Was shooting MOA at 100 yards but not sure what ammo he was using or anything. I was impressed with it. Especially for the price (think he paid like 700 for it)

Windham is a company i am hoping really gets their feet of the ground. Being fired from Bushmaster and then forming your own company and starting from the ground up is rough.

I have a windham. I had a bushmaster as well before I sold it. Basically I have a windham, the flat top one, for my 5.56, and a sig for my 7.62 AK variant I feel like I covered what I wanted to with those two.

I've got one of those; I like it.

Love mine. It was cut down to riot length (from what length I don't know) - it was a full choke before but it's cylinder now. Despite being 102 years old (made in 1911) it's still super tight and runs great. Slam fires well too. It's the gun that'll teach me not to ride the trigger...

What ammo do you use to shoot? I was shooting low recoil 00 buck.

One of them is marked ORM-D, the ammo obviously.. He was genuinely pissed off that it was so heavy. The total weight of the two packages came out to like 65 lbs :whiste:

I've ordered ammo a few times from palmetto state armory and they tend to be a tad bit slow on shipping em out. I'm about to order a handgun from them. Anyone ever do so and if so are they a bit quicker?

Ive heard they are about the same. At least with stripped lowers they are about the same as ordering non-ffl items.

Tell him to man up. my UPS lady has delivered plenty of ammo/bullets/ect and not once complained. And she is like 5'3" 120 pounds. She will carry it if its one package but uses a handcart when multiple packages show up the same time. Now the USPS at the post office...he com..plains about anything over 10 pounds. And all he does is sit behind the counter all day

Haven't ordered a gun, but you have to pay to play usually. I expect my cheapest shops to not have the quickest ship times.

Sadly, many are making that an issue with some and they are losing business from internet mouths.

Like another poster said (as well as their Grendel) it's a novelty item. You'd be king of the range in some places, but as a real weapon in an end of our civilization situation or even if our gov'ment started tightening ammo. You have nothing to shoot.

They look cool, but many AR15s in .223/.308 can look just as cool if you shop the parts.

PA is just one of the slowest but reliable...

Cheaper than Dirt ships quick but is a bit pricey on most weapons plus I pay tax here in TX... Still bought my RAAC 1919 cheaper there with tax than anywhere else with no tax...?
J&G sales ship fairly quick and good prices on a lot of stuff but their shipping cost are a tad high...

Really like to try (BlueCore) it is Veteran owned and operated and have ok prices but know nothing about their shipping...?

Holy hell. Went to the range today.

That little sonofabitch is excellent. Fired 150 rounds flawlessly and is a god damn tack driver. That's the one I wanted the grips for...but now I dunno, cause the stock ones, which I decided to trim/smooth with a bit of sanding yesterday, are now pretty damned acceptable. A little ghetto looking; but functional. I also polished the chamber/barrel (the outside) 'cause the black coating that came on there looked weird. Made it look like an airsoft gun or something.

Anyway...yeah...I've fired 9mm's costing twice as much that did not perform as well. Turkey Fuck Yeah.

hehe that's how i've felt with the ammo shipments but I don't get to get to the range often. I really want to jump on the m&p shield 9mm deal today but unfortunately I don't have all the info for my local shop so I gotta wait till the morning. I figure $375 can't be too bad since it's the lowest I've seen it in a long while

I would certainly agree with that. I don't think there is anything magical about mil spec, and on the high end it can be more of a limitation than a benefit, since in many instances there are higher-quality materials which are not mil spec.

You shoot? Where at?

That's my point. Mil-spec is a tolerance floor people should accept as the bar minimum. If you're buying DPMS, CMMG, or several other manufacturer's you're refusing to hit at least that tolerance and quality control. MPI (magnetic particle inspection) is pretty key on bolts as they are the heart of a rifle along with the barrel.

I have no clue about Windham, nor do I really care to investigate when companies like BCM are around and a well known/respected quantity. I've never even seen them mentioned by SMEs before.

commercial stock tubes are larger diameter than mil-spec, by ~ 1/8th of an inch

that makes it unacceptible?

Windham = old Bushmaster crew before the Bushmaster brand was sold.

They are excellent, probably better than the new Bushmasters. The original Bushmaster rifles had Windham marked on the receivers, the new ones say NY or something.

They are "moar mil spec" than Colt's civilian ARs (eg green phosphate coating is correct, etc)

This obsession with "mil spec" and who has the better AR is dumb. There are only like 3 foundries that make most parts. The barrel is the only thing that should matter, and mil spec chrome lined isn't the best, but still better than 99.9% of shooters that leave it in the box...

He was pissed off? Because he has to do his job? What a whiny bitch. And 65 lbs... hahaha! I'm a skinny dude, 5' 8" and 130 lbs, and could handle that. Fuck even if it was too heavy to carry, use the damn handcart, they work on stairs. Yikes...

Noveske, LMT, LaRue, BCM only. The rest are garbage.

Agreed on the WW rifles and mil-spec obsession. I saw a flyer later last week from Cabela's that had WW rifles at a great (IMO) price. A great gun for someone looking for their first (or fifth, really, haha) AR-15.

No, they're unacceptable because they are an extruded hollow tube with an end welded in place.

Guess where they fail?

Mil spec is a forged aluminum solid unit, milled to proper dimensions. Its also why the threads are different between the two processes.

Another poster made the point that some commercial spec tubes are better than mil spec. It is true that there are some non-mil spec tubes that are better but I've never heard them advertised as commercial spec.
