Pacfan:

I understand that you are new to guns but please, please, please, please take a handgun course at your local range. Read up, anything by Massad Ayoob is good, he actually has a ton of videos on youtube if you prefer that. Just please get a little informed education before buying, owning and keeping a firearm. PLEASE.

I'm sorry that myself and others have turned this into a pissing contest of sorts. This is life or death stuff and its importance can't be emphasized enough. Please get some formal training.

Not new to guns, friend. Handguns, yes, but I have several shotguns/rifles and have all my life.

Depends on where you are. In WA, you can carry any gun in a car legally if it is unloaded. If it's loaded, you must be en route to the range, then it is also legal. So I can carry an unloaded gun anywhere in my car in WA. I suggest you check your actual laws; unless you're in Chicago or DC, it WILL be legal to carry an UNLOADED gun in your car.

Moreover, I restate that antique weapons are a toss up. I've seen Garands and M1 Carbines in TERRIBLE shape; 1903s from Rock Island for example are almost universally a death trap due to lack of hardening. Handle the gun before buying or buy ONLY with a 3 day inspection policy.

You're a fool if you believe this. IF you're accurate, IF there's one perp, IF you don't get a dud round (I've seen them. Hit the primer once and it doesn't go. Maybe if you hit the primer again it will. Maybe it won't.) Go look up the guy who had 6 .38spl rounds in him and walked away.

When I carry my 1911, which is a Dan Wesson CCO with 7 rounds in the mag instead of 8, I always carry the gun loaded (so 7+1) and two more magazines in a pocket. It's not because I think I'll need them. It's because it's better to be prepared. If 22 rounds can't finish the job, I'm running in the opposite direction.

I'm considering carrying a FN Hi Power, which is 13 or 16 rounds per magazine...simply because of the capacity.

You should start quoting hard facts here. I don't mean to be insulting or demeaning, but you're going after one of the most popular myths. It's been disproven. Moreover, when talking guns, you will generally get a better response if you get terminology correct; a magazine holds and feeds ammunition. A clip simply holds it. Stripper clips and enbloc clips hold rounds. The M1 Garand has an internal magazine. AR15s, M1As, 1911s and so forth have detachable magazines (not clips.)

The properties of springs don't change when they are put in a gun.

I have never said a spring will weaken to the point that it won't function.

All I said was that it HAS to weaken at least a tiny bit, and I am correct about that.

Google spring relaxation. All springs do it. Generally, the manufacturer takes this into account and it doesn't affect operation.

Yes, loaded. The only time a spring wears is when it is cycled.
That's wrong.

Tiamat was completely correct when he stated the only time a spring wears in a magazine is when it is cycled. By the time the magazine has been shipped from the manufacturer the spring has already gone through the initial "relaxation" or compression to get to the current configuration it is at when purchased. Only cycling the spring will further degrade it. The state it is left in after you purchase a magazine will not affect the spring nor degrade it.

Then you made this post....

You apparently have a problem with reading comprehension.

I said there is no way a spring can stay compressed and not lose a LITTLE pressure. That is a fact. Also said whether the slight pressure loss MATTERS is a different thing.

Technically speaking, a spring WILL lose some pressure. And that is 100% correct. And I said it also probably doesn't matter, because the manufacturer probably figured that into the spring when it was designed, so when new it's slightly stronger than necessary, so when it 'fades' slightly, it's still within tolerance.

So I never, ever said or implied that the spring will just sit there and keep getting weaker. Only that technically speaking, they DO lose at least a little pressure. That's it.

My actual quote, so you don't think I'm misrepresenting what I originally posted:

Which you are making again the assumption a magazine spring will degrade overtime if it remains compressed while fully loaded. Again, this is wrong. Modern magazine springs will not degrade if left fully loaded by the compression of the spring in that state. Ever. They will eventually degrade due to rust and other factors, but not from being compressed at that point anymore.

Went to Academy and Walmart today.

Academy: Glock 9mm 33 rounds magazine for $50 and 9mm 15 rounds magazine for $30. Total price - $85.xx after sale tax. Not great but finally I was able to get extra magazines (hi cap). Internet stores are still out of stock.

Walmart: Colt 6920 Magpul Edition AR15 for $1167 or about $1266.xx after sale tax. The rifle was nice and all (Magpul stock, magazine, and furniture) but I will wait for the next 2nd Amendment sale for no sale tax on guns and ammo.

Have you checked out Daniel defense? I snagged a ddm4v7lw for $1300 out the door at one of the local shows. Lighter weight than the colt with similar furniture. I like the sparse long hand guard with modular pic rails!

What he means is that you've gone 10 seconds without insulting someone.

I don't try to insult. I only insult those that are idiots.

Many in this thread don't even understand the guns they are shooting/packing/etc.

That's sad.

Sorry I made you throw down your walker.

Daniel for $1300? Not bad at all. I thought they would be at least $2K and up. I just checked their dealer locator and one of them was a pawnshop not too far away. I did not see the big boys such as Cabela's, Bass Pro, or Academy on the list. Will check it out soon. Thank for the suggestion.

No but can you please post some gun porn of the shield?

Also...do you mind saying what you paid? I keep hearing about them but I can't find one to fondle!

That's a really good deal. I've carried a DD V5LW for a couple years as a patrol gun and after getting beat pretty bad it's running great. Can't say enough good things about it. Seems they have raised their prices and getting your hands on one for less than $1500 is getting harder. But $2k is way to high, that's $300 higher than MSRP.

Sad to hear prices going up :-( I bought mine two months ago either at the NRA Nations Gun show or the Fredericksburg one. The merchants there are receptive to cash payment discounts and volume discounts too.

The colt is quite nice either way svnla if that is what is available.

During the time you fucknards banned me, I ordered and received a Cheetah 85 in chrome.
But it didnt look nearly as good as the photos so I took it to the gunsmith. He's gonna tell me if its bullet-worthy or not.

My DD v7 ended costing $2200 out the door, which is almost as much as my SCAR 16s. Do NOT ever order directly from DD is what I learned. I customized a v7 from their website (SSA trigger and some minor mods). They charged me an extra couple of hundred dollars for a Federal excise tax for assembling it. Didn't even know that existed.

I mean this in the nicest of ways...but why in the world would anyone want a .380 of that size? Isn't the Cheetah (I actually had to google that; always just incorrectly called that design an 84FS apparently) similar to most 'compact' 9mm's? Probably about the same size as the Canik (CZ-75 compact clone) below.

...so, speaking of that, I took that pic to show my new purchase. Went ahead and bought a CW45. As you can see, it's still smaller than what is a relatively compact doublestack 9mm. I'm looking forward to shooting it, having never fired a .45 Kahr.

Coincidentally, I had thrown the full-size Beretta there for further size comparison. That's actually my airsoft sidearm, heh. But same dimensions as the real thing. Just seems comically large.

Oh yeah. And you may notice the silver frame on the CZ clone. Yep, that happened. It's not quite so blinding without a camera flash. I need to finish the grips, also. They started out as fat and chunky with an uncomfortable texture. They are now loads thinner and almost smooth.

No experience with that particular holster brand, however, most single clip holsters I have worn suffer from a small amount of shift that can be discomforting. I have been using an Aliengear for the past few months. Honestly the most comfortable holster I have owned. Best value for the money spent as well.
