Anyone have a thought on Federal for carry ammo? I'm liking some of the prices I'm seeing but I have no experience with it.
HST, yes. It's the best stuff you can buy IMO. Hydrashok or anything else, no.

Hst or preferably hst +p. They have very good expansion. For my smaller handguns, I like speer gold dot short barrel. The hst is usually only sold to le. However you can find it at gun shows often.

8mm?
Thats a film not a bullet!
It IS a bullet caliber.
its what the germans used in ww2 in a lot of weapons
If you guys dig around on Youtube, you can find plenty of people shooting into sides of beef. When it comes to bone and flesh, you'd be amazed how similarly all the hollow points perform.
The only noticeable difference is in gel tests.
The bottom line is that Hydrashok is an older generation hollow point design, HST is a better overall design (better expansion, penetration), and HST only costs $30 for a box of 50 rounds. So why buy Hydrashok, which is just as or more expensive?Only snobs who read magazines think that any one of them is somehow inferior.

I'm much more worried about reliability than if it goes another .002" into a dead cow. I want to know that when I pull the trigger, it goes boom. I've never had a Gold Dot ftf so I have stuck with them.
So HydraShock is a no?
HST is what I should look into?
Ultimate reliability bullet-wise I'd go for Hornady Critical Duty. Law Enforcement upgrade of the Critical Defense line, both have that eraser insert into the hollowpoint cavity. Ensures reliable expansion (especially through thick clothing) and smoother feeding. It's a fairly new round, but the tests are pretty impressive.

It's still around so Walmart can hawk Hydra-Shok for $1/round.They're still around for a reason. I'll agree HST is better tech, but I sincerely doubt Hydrashok won't do the job.

Hydrashok is not as expensive as HST. HST is closer to $40-45+ shipped if you dont get it in large quantities.

I can't find a 50 box of HST anywhere now that I actually want to buy some.
