Makes a big difference where the steel is located. I've had good luck with steel cased ammo, mainly Tula. Used it for plinking when ammo went sky high. It's low powered and not overly accurate but for punching holes in paper it'll do the trick.

As other said in above posts, steel case ammo give them problems. From my research, they are more likely to be more dirty (more black powder deposit on your guns) and more likely to have FTF/FTE/other problems (not saying that they are, just more likely).

Plus I don't shoot as much as others (hundreds of rounds per month) and the cost saving (pennies per round) is not that much for me.

Depends on the gun really, for instance I've read the keltec rfb actually prefers steel cased ammo.

I haven't had any problems with any of the Monarch ammo I purchased. I have it in .380, 9mm, .45 acp, 7.62x39, and 5.56. It has all shot reliably for me in many different weapons. I will say it's a bit dirtier and leave quite a bit more soot on the guns, but haven't had a reliability issue with the ammo.

Now I also picked up some brass cased Armscor ammo.... THAT is shit. Jams almost every time in multiple guns. Heck, even Hickock in his youtube video was experiencing the same failures in his video with the same Armscor ammo I was using.

Not sure what is up with your Monarch ammo. Then again I bought mine abotu a year ago, so maybe it's an older/better batch than yours?

Today was the 1st day of buck season in PA. Got a 7 point around 7:50 AM. Used my Winchester Model 70 in 30-06.

Took 2 shots. first shot dropped him where he was standing and he stayed down and didn't move for about 2 minutes. Then he suddenly gets up on his hind legs (chest/front legs on the ground) and pushes himself like 10 feet before I put him down with a 2nd shot.

never had an issues with steel cased ammo. shoot in my AR (Spike's Upper).

Extractors/ejectors are cheap. even if you have to buy one sooner than you would using brass ammo, the savings in steel case ammo is more than the part.

I've got a new toy on the way:

This will be quite effective at perforating certain meth addicts if they decide to invade my home.

Anyone have a thought on Federal for carry ammo? I'm liking some of the prices I'm seeing but I have no experience with it.

FWIW, carry ammo shouldn't be the cheap stuff. Some federal is good carry ammo...but good carry ammo is usually pretty spendy and comes in 20 round boxes.

Is that the 500? I actually kinda prefer the 460 - it's the same gun, with more steel on the cylinder so you can generally load hotter rounds. Fun guns, either way. And heavy.

Had steel case (Wolf) ammo stick in the chamber, in my Stag model 3, so will probably stick with using brass cased in that gun.

However, my Mini-14 and my Glock 17 both digest it without any problems, multiple brands used in the Glock.

Nice new toy... What is the ammo cost on a hand cannon...? Just wanted to ask as compared to my former 50bmg (know its a different animal but still eats and shits...)

Roughly $50 for a box of 20 rounds (with shipping), and that's considered on the cheaper side. It's expensive, but I don't expect to shoot nearly as many rounds through this as through my 1911. This is just a toy to take to the range to make a big boom and to annoy a friend of mine because I'll now have the bigger gun
