Fire a .45 indoors and then let me know if a quieter gun for home defense doesn't make sense.

If I have to fire my gun indoors, the last thing I care about is how loud it is.

And for the record I could go buy a supressor right now at the local gun store. Again I just don't see the appeal.

Im still waiting for one from December 22nd of last year (was a dealer to dealer first though). The one i ordered in August (another dealer to dealer) im not expecting till 2015 at this point

Wow!

For anyone not familiar with the process. To purchase an NFA item, you first have to have all your paperwork in order. Once you have that, you go to your dealer, hand them your paperwork, then hand them your money for the firearm PLUS the money for the stamp (normally $200). Once your dealer has all this, they send your paperwork to the ATF for approval and take your little item and put it in their safe until your paperwork is approved. Once your paperwork comes back, you can THEN pick up your item.

For me, I have about $3K in NFA items waiting to be approved. In the meantime, I just sit here with jack squat.

Well that's good for you. I prefer to take out the intruder AND not damage my hearing in the process.

If you were familiar with NFA items, you'd know you just can't go in and buy a suppressor "right now." Sorry.

yeah the December 22nd one is a 762-SDN and i didnt expect it to take this long. My Class 3 dealer had a shipment coming in when i bought it (while picking up my osprey45 lol). So that added about a month if i remember correctly before he got the serial number to send in my form. After that its just been a waiting game.

the other is a thunder beast arms 30p-1 that i bought as a group buy. So they werent even made yet. So ordered it and TBAC still had to make it then transfer it to my dealer. So figured 4 months for all that which puts us around jan for my paperwork to finally go in. based on the 762SDN im not expecting it before the following christmas lol.

doesnt help WA state seems to have one of the slower examiners too

Shrug. Gun store sells them. They are legal here. Never looked into it more than that.

No idea why you are so defensive. All I said was that I didn't see the appeal.

Being legal in your state just means you can go through the process, if you want to purchase it. That's about it. It being available at your gun store just means it's legal, that's it. The reason most people don't purchase these items is not because they "don't make sense" it's because it is somewhat expensive to own, PLUS the hoops you have to jump through to own it. Currently those hoops are a pain in the ass, however with the new proposition those hoops may become walls. And that's the real problem.

I'm not being defense, however your comments don't seem to be well thought out. But let me make sure I understand you correctly, you're saying you don't see the appeal of a quieter weapon?

I don't see the appeal of suppressors for pistols.
I don't see the appeal of SBRs.

Please stop trying to change what I am saying. It makes you sound like an illogical maniac not capable of comprehending a simple sentence.

Very nice man. I have an Osprey 45, Osprey 9 and AAC Ti-Rant 9 waiting for their stamps. If this proposition looks to pass though, I may have to step it up and go on a NFA item run in a few weeks. Items on the list, Saker, WC Whisper and SS Sparrow.

Please stop with your tantrums. You sounds like a kid with his fingers in his ears screaming "lalalalala" when someone is trying to talk to them. I'm not trying to change what you're saying, that IS what you are saying. You don't see the appeal of a quieter weapon. It doesn't make much sense to me, but to each his own.

And for the record, I really don't give a shit if it appeals to you or not. I'm not trying to sell it to you. If you don't want to buy these things, don't. Others do though. Maybe someone doesn't see the appeal of owning a gun. I'm not going to try to change their mind, just don't try and prevent me from buying one for myself.

Went to another Walmart this morning. No 9 mm of anything except two large metal cans (military style green color). They were ZTI brand for $497 plus sale tax for 1,200 rounds. They made in Turkey. Not familiar with that brand and over $0.3 per round = no go for me.

I also saw an AR15 on sale for $617 plus sale tax but it was a DPMS, will wait for when Windham on sale for about $660 plus sale tax.

Went to another Academy and found several boxes of brass Blazer (made by CCI/Speer in USA) for $14 for 1 box of 50 rounds. Total price was about $0.30 per round out the door (including sale tax).

Today was 1st day of doe season in PA. Got a doe at around 11:35 AM. 1 shot took her down, about 92 yards. She was walking pretty fast in a group of about 4 or 5 deer. Had to lead a little and it was pretty much a perfect shot. Dropped her where she stood and she stayed down.

The buck I got on Monday was about 57 yards I think. Pretty lucky this year as most years I never see anything or if I do, it's a doe in buck season and I can't shoot it.

Already got the buck butchered the other day. Gave half to my parents. My dad hunts too but he hasn't got anything yet (and he's been hunting since archery season). I got 20 lbs out meat out my half. got a few steaks and made hamburger out of the rest.

I have a very dumb question:

What should I know about handgun sight upgrades? Sets seem to be very specific in fitment...is this generally a 'calibration' matter related to barrel length, bore height, ect? Or is physical fitment that widely varied?

I guess, basically, I'm asking if 'dovetail' sights have any kind of standardization, or if the measurements for the physical fitment to the slide are just all over the place between manufacturers and model lines.

I stopped at the range again and am doing better with trigger pull. Still astounded at how I never would've believed I was nearly this bad with a DAO trigger before I started trying to shoot groups on clean paper from 10m+. And that's basically a 'fake' DAO trigger...a real hammer-fired DAO would surely result in even poorer performance.

But I still think new sights would greatly improve my accuracy. The front sight is pinned and seems like kind of a PITA to mess with; also, I don't mine a painted white dot front sight. I would rather just get a 2 dot rear that sits a higher. Don't exactly have a lot of choice as far as sights made for Kahrs, hence the above questions regarding fitment of sights...just want to see if I can find some options.

There is a pretty good sight subforum on glocktalk. You may find some armorers who can tell you c or sure what will work.

What 1911 is that?

Are there any 1911s without a big tail?
It is a Springfield Armory 1911 A1... Yes if I'm not mistaken the earlier models did not have what is called the "beaver tail"... I think most all do now... Have to do some research on this...? But would bet there are some 1911 guru's on here that can answer quite easy...?

Howndo you like it? I'm assuming the beaver tail serves a purpose but I am concerned about it snagging clothing if I have to draw quick.

Nice collection. I'm not a Ruger guy but I hear they are great guns.

sights are very subjective. A lot of gun shows can do demos of their product.

I like tritium sights but didn't need them on my P-01...however; I see very well in the dark as the back of my eyes are the same as many albinos. It's called a Blonde Fundi (sp? I am not going to google).

In pitch black I am able to find the things others have dropped at times.

Jesus...the beaver tail is well spoken about. I am assuming you never got pinched by a gun (*edit* I was looking actually at ammo burns on youtube, my fiancée keeps getting rounds down her shirt ) yet (although I am sure you will have stories about that soon).

The 1911 is a full-sized gun, the beaver tail is comfortable and practical. I would love to own a $2000+ 1911 one day. I am happy with my CZ P-01 for now.

here is a quick qoogle: http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=219384

Thank you... Been thinning the herd but improving the bloodline...

The 1911 is the meat and potatoes gun but the meat can be the best steak you ever tasted... Its not much of a carry type weapon just way to heavy and large of course and yes the beaver tail would not be a good thing to have when in a hurry (worst issue is capacity)... But most are carried in an external holster so this is not much of an issue... Main thing is they are very accurate and reliable and no matter what they are made from they are like well designed tanks... Lot of competitions are shot with these...

If open carry was OK, it'd be a 1911 in my holster and a higher capacity 9mm in my off hand side.
